The Central Zone Painting Department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Painter II. About the Opportunity: Under the direction of the Operation Manager, the duties of this position requires the individual to assist in the performance of a variety of painting tasks related to maintenance and repair of buildings. Also, performs task such as the moving of furniture and a variety of janitorial duties pertaining to Painting and repair projects throughout the campus. What You'll Do:
- Will assist the Trade Specialist in paints, varnishes, shellacs, urethanes, enamels, stains and other medium utilizing necessary professional techniques and abilities. Performs painting with rollers, brushes, sponges, etc. to apply medium and uses other necessary related equipment including tape gun and other equipment related to the trade.
- Assists the Trade Specialist with the repair of plaster and drywall ensuring that all surfaces are smooth and ready for paint.
- Under the guidance of a Trades Specialist helps with finishing and refinishing of wooden items such as furniture, cabinets, doors, doorframes, chair rails, base cove, etc. Prepares surfaces for appropriate finishes (sanding, chemical cleaning, etc.)
- Under the leadership of a Trades Specialist, helps with the removal and replacement of electrical switch and receptacle covers as needed for job preparation and disassembles and assembles electrical light fixtures as needed for job preparation and completion.
- Assists in the performing of a variety of carpentry related projects such as: wood repairs, the sanding of drywall, the gluing of cove base, the cleaning and sanding of walls, steel beams, and other related surfaces. May be required to mix plaster and mortar. Helps with the removal and installation of wall hangings objects such as pictures, bulletin boards, coatracks, etc., secure loose trim and base boards, etc.
- Assists in the assembling of scaffoldings, including but not limited to rolling, pipe, stretch-boards and kick-boards.
- Must be able to use a variety of power tools such as sanders, drills, saws and power washers
- Must be able to perform duties from various ladders and scaffoldings
- May be required to assist in duties in other areas and units. Such as housekeeping, Renew Crew and window cleaning crew and grounds clean-up. Also it may require working on both campuses on any given day.
- Provides janitorial services as it relates to painting and repair projects.
- While assisting in the repair and painting of classrooms, offices, dorm rooms and all public areas, the position will be responsible for the final cleaning of the interior of each project area. These areas will include classrooms, labs, offices and public areas. These tasks will be sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, dusting and polishing furniture, washing and cleaning walls, ceilings, doors, windows, etc., and performing other related internal cleaning activities related to the completed project. This will include the re-setting of all furniture.
- Assists the Trades Specialist in the installation of dispenser throughout Campus.
- Operates walk-behind and riding scrubbers, high-speed buffers, automated carpet cleaners, and other associated equipment needed to perform duties listed above.
Pay Grade: Hours: Monday thru Friday 6am - 2 pm
