The Utility Operator plays a critical role in the remelt department by preparing materials for the melting process. This position involves operating various equipment to cut, grind, and weld materials to required specifications, as well as supporting furnace and crucible setup and teardown activities. The role requires adherence to safety standards, physical endurance, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Essential Functions

  • Operate rotary abrasive saws, ingot grinders, welders, and related equipment to cut, grind, and weld materials to specifications
  • Assist with crucible and furnace setup and teardown processes
  • Operate heavy machinery including forklifts and cranes
  • Use precision measuring devices such as Pi tapes and measuring tapes to ensure material accuracy
  • Maintain accurate logs and production records
  • Follow all prescribed safety regulations and standard operating procedures
  • Perform tasks while standing for extended periods
  • Lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Work at heights as required


Non-Essential (Additional) Functions

  • Operate auxiliary equipment such as crucible cleaners, ingot laydown devices, and stinger prep cells
  • Support general housekeeping and organization within the work area
  • Assist other team members or departments as needed
  • Participate in training or continuous improvement activities



Qualifications / Requirements



  • Ability to safely operate industrial equipment in accordance with standard procedures
  • Willingness and ability to work at heights
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail


Preferred Qualifications



  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least one (1) year of Manufacturing experience


Preferred Skills



  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic math skills
