MEP ESTIMATOR II

The primary role of the MEP Estimator II is to provide estimating support on projects to the project team, from conceptual design to sub-contractor project award. Provide estimating support for Business Development activities and Project Pursuits along with central estimating team.

  • Read and interpret project specifications and plans to prepare detailed, comprehensive and accurate quantity surveys
  • Perform conceptual estimating from preliminary project parameters
  • Prepare project estimates including self-performed work, subcontracted work and general requirements
  • Understand timelines and applicable project deadlines
  • Maintain current information on products, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Preparation of detailed quantity surveys
  • Subcontractor/supplier bid solicitation and coordination
  • Provide input to the project team for the project schedule

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in applicable experience in construction and estimating.
  • Previous experience with Bluebeam or On-Screen takeoff
  • 3-5 years of experience utilizing estimating tools such as Bluebeam for takeoffs, iTWO Cost X estimating platform, ICAT, or other tools.

Preferred

  • 5-10 years of experience participating in estimating commercial and industrial constructions project
  • 10+ years of experience in the applicable experience of MEP estimating.
  • Professional designations such as CPE, DBIA, CPC, LEED AP, etc.
  • Ability to navigate through REVIT and AutoCAD documents.

    Office and Travel:

    • Occasional travel to jobsites is required, an average of 10% travel time is anticipated.

    Responsibilities and Tasks:

    MEP Cost Estimates

    • Utilize Estimating Tools to develop a comprehensive MEP cost estimate. Perform take-off under direction of Senior Estimator/Director of Estimating/Director of Operations with existing conditions/temp provisions, substructure-single sided forms, deep foundations, structure concrete, system connections, masonry evaluation of labor risk
    • Develop and manage MEP bid instructions, bid cards and sub-contractor scope documents to avoid gaps in Sub-Contractor scopes
    • Estimate Templates by modifying estimate template for project requirements and understand the value analysis log and generate items.
    • Pricing: understand cost history evaluation, general understanding of unit prices, self-perform pricing, general conditions including weather and hoisting, estimate development, CD/DD estimates, SD/DD estimates, conceptual estimates. Assist the A/E and Subcontractor to price and evaluate VE and cost reduction items.
    • Collaborate with subcontractors, design teams, and scheduling team to ensure estimates prepared are accurate.
    • Assist in evaluating subcontractor cost proposals and qualifications.
    • Assist in the cost review of substitution requests and change orders when requested by Project Management staff.
    • Observe site functional performance testing and review construction mock-up designs
    • Perform investigations and site reviews to determine design and repair options, building investigation reports and other construction documents related to project investigation.
    • Work with onsite team to maintain all project related QA/QC documents including but not limited to: letters, material submittals, shop drawing submittals, schedules, project documentation and records
    • Review and approve all incoming submittals prior to issuance to contracting office
    • Conduct the minimum of three phases (Preparatory, Initial, and Follow-up) of control for each definable feature of work
    • Review contracting office requirements and ensure they are being met
    • Define and establish quality procedures, standards and specifications as required

    Communication with Project Team

    • Excellent subcontractor communication (knowing what questions to ask)
    • Attend Design Team meetings
    • Constructability knowledge
    • Generate RFI's
    • Schedule evaluation
    • Jobsite visits: production rates, constructability, schedule, time studies, etc.

    Pursuit and Business Development

    • Assist pursuit team in understanding prospective projects and requirements.
    • Assist pursuit team in completing responses to RFQs and RFPs.
    • Foster relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants and subcontractors
    • Participate in company business development activities

    McGough Self-Performed Work

    • Understand and perform quantity take-offs and assist in estimating labor production, materials and equipment
    • Understand warehouse equipment, rentals, small tools, services and costs
    • Gather information, implement or assist in PACE preparation and projections
    • Scope bid materials (concrete, rebar, brick, etc.)
    • Assist with creating Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules for our work

    Scheduling

    • Assist field staff with creating CPM scheduling
    • Work closely with field staff to update and distribute schedule as needed
    • Co-lead Last Planner efforts in conjunction with field staff

    Other Duties as Assigned

    • Participate as an active member of the McGough Raleigh and Estimating teams. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and other stakeholders to align efforts. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Attend and participate in project management and other company meetings
    • Attend any training - personal and/or professional development - that is relevant to the position, including human resources management.
    • Support and follow standards of work.
    • Provide professional and technical mentorship to MEP Estimating team.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned
