Research Technologist (Oncology)

We are seeking a Research Technologist who will perform laboratory tasks and completes routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures. The Ding lab has a broad interest in leukemia genomics and systems biology approaches to finding new therapeutic vulnerabilities. The Ding lab utilizes experimental genomics, systems biology, and translational models to develop improved precision medicine therapies for children with leukemia. Experimental approaches include functional genomics (CRISPR, siRNA), novel drug/compound testing, next generation sequencing (bulk and single-cell RNA seq and ATAC-seq), as well as use of leukemia cell line models, primary patient leukemia cells, and murine models. The successful candidate should have excellent communication and organizational skills, including detailed recordkeeping and lab management skills, and will be detail-oriented. General position requirements include assisting in maintaining equipment and laboratory stock reagent and solutions, lab upkeep, cell culture handling, and other general responsibilities in laboratory operation as directed.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical and/or research laboratory experiments by following common protocols independently or with instructions.
  • Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques and methods of the lab.
  • Gain problem-solving skills through progressive training, understanding of the research, and experience.
  • Run lab tests and complete measurements.
  • Identify and resolve common problems involved in routine assays.
  • Increase skill base and knowledge of lab research and relevant assays.
  • Train users in standard equipment operation and routine lab techniques and procedures.
  • Set-up experiments based on defined standards.
  • Collect project data.
  • Prepare, test, and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
  • Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitor inventory of supplies, clean equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
  • Experience with sterile cell culture of human cell lines.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • A Degree of experience in DNA/RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing techniques, protein extraction, western blotting and flow cytometry will be a plus.
  • Interest in statistical software and coding (R, Python) preferred

Starting Salary Range:$15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($21.00/hour targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
