The Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides medical care for patients on the overnight inpatient surgical specialty services at the University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado Hospital is a high volume, high acuity surgical service. The candidate will be expected to provide focused coverage of Plastic Surgery, Burn Surgery, and Urology services. The role will include cross training and procedural training on selected services. Clinical duties will include care of inpatient surgical patients, bedside procedures, inpatient consults, and ED admissions of the subspecialty surgical services. The candidate with be part of an interprofessional team which includes, APPs, residents, fellows and attending physicians but will also have the autonomy of being the front line inpatient provider for their service. Key Responsibilities: * Work hours: This is a 7-day nighttime service with 12.5 hour shifts. Rotating holiday and weekend coverage is expected. * Evaluate and manage patients on surgical subspecialty service, provide appropriate documentation of care including assessment and plan of the overnight events in collaboration with senior residents, fellows and attending physicians. * Respond to request for consultation of patients on the inpatient surgical subspecialty service in a timely manner. This includes obtaining a thorough history, performing an appropriate physical examination and ordering appropriate testing. This will require working collaboratively with senior residents, fellows and attending physicians on night teams. * Will be required to perform procedures for currently hospitalized patients and in the Emergency Department if providing consultation. * Maintain competency and enhance professional growth and development through continuing education, conferences, and seminars. Attend mandatory training. * Participate in quality improvement activities; assist in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards. * Support and uphold established organizational policies, procedures, and objectives related to quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control. * Participate in the application process and development of a Center of Excellence designation as required. * Maintain patient confidentiality. |
