The Rutgers Filmmaking Center at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University-New Brunswick invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track Lecturer in Filmmaking for the 2026-2027 academic year, beginning September 1, 2026.
The position seeks an experienced practitioner and educator with a broad understanding of contemporary film practice and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate filmmaking education. We seek someone with vision who is eager to contribute to the continued growth and
future development of a thriving undergraduate
BFA program that trains the next generation of filmmakers and media professionals to be intellectually and socially engaged artists.
Leveraging collaborations across the school and university, this position is responsible for teaching courses in film production and directing. Courses may also include other areas aligned with departmental needs and the candidate's professional background. Faculty are expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students in their artistic and professional development while maintaining ongoing professional creative activity and/or scholarly research appropriate to the discipline. Responsibilities may also include supervision of student productions, independent studies, internships, and participation in collaborative creative projects within the program. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a sustained commitment to mentoring and supporting a diverse undergraduate student population.
Additional responsibilities include holding regular office hours; attending Mason Gross and department faculty meetings; participating in student recruitment and admissions activities; contributing to curriculum development and assessment initiatives; participating in undergraduate review cycles; supporting collaborations within Mason Gross School of the Arts and across Rutgers University-New Brunswick; and contributing service in support of the filmmaking program. Housed in one of the leading public research universities on the East Coast, the Rutgers Filmmaking Center at Mason Gross School of the Arts offers an undergraduate
BFA program that balances practice, theory, and history of cinema. Named by The Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap, and Variety as one of the top film programs in the country, the program trains students in all aspects of film production, including research, interdisciplinary collaboration, scriptwriting, cinematography, field production, directing, editing, and post-production.
