Salary: The previously determined range for this position was $40.08-91.37/hr. Position Summary The Clinical Nursing Consultant II will typically develop and implement nursing educational programs for nursing service personnel in a clinical service. The Clinical Nurse Consultant II is accountable for facilitating the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Clinical Nurse Consultant II provides patient care and consultation, coordinates the educational development of staff members and acts as a role model in clinical practice. The CNCII strives to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Clinical Nurse Consultant II participates in monitoring, developing, and evaluating nursing practice while fulfilling unit and organizational goals. Duties & Responsibilities Coordinates Lactation Services within UI Health. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to patients, physicians, employees and visitors to UI Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only amount appropriate personnel in private places Views patients holistically: considers physical, psychological, emotional, age specific, cultural and spiral factors. Demonstrates appropriate assessment skills (interview inspections, implementation of breastfeeding plan, latch score) for breastfeeding mother and her baby. Recognizes, synthesizes, and responds to a patient situation. Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises and individualized plan of c are for the breastfeeding family, while actively involving them in the plan of care. Utilizes the UI Health breastfeeding policy when caring for Breastfeeding Committee as needed and teaches others about following the policy. Provides direct and/or indirect care to a specific case load of patients regardless of geographic location. Receives and assesses referrals from all hospital units and outpatient areas. Identifies patient and family education needs. Develops and revises patient education materials for breastfeeding oversees/teaches the prenatal/postpartum breastfeeding class and helps to revise and update materials as needed. Teaches families according to these approved materials to prevent conflict of information. Provides additional resources as needed and identifies necessary resources to assure readiness for discharge. May teach community prenatal lactation classes, teaches lactation theory and breastfeeding concepts to new orientees, provide in-services related to breastfeeding on unit as needed. Participates effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team by collaborating to achieve patient outcomes. Prioritizes necessary activities and delegates appropriately. Effectively communicates patient breastfeeding status, priority goals and interventions to colleagues and other disciplines through written (Lactation Assessment) and oral means. Responds to and documents outside calls requesting breastfeeding information and support. Assist breastfeeding mothers with infants in Mother Baby and NICU. Works with health care team to develop feeding plans and discharge planning. The role also includes staff and patient education. Discharge planning for infants who are at high risk for feeding difficulties includes short-term feeding plan and early follow-up with pediatrician. Participates in administrative duties. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned Minimum Qualifications 1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. 2. Registered Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. 3. Two years of nursing experience in the branch of service to which assigned. 4. BSN (or higher) required an accredited nursing program. 5. Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit specific certifications. 6. Certified Lactation Counselor certification (CLC) or Certified Lactation Specialist certification (CLS) or Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC). 7. International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or must obtain certification within six (6) months of hire date. 8. Must possess a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate or must obtain certification within three (3) months of hire is required. (If obtained must provide at time of interview). 9. Ability to select appropriate teaching methods based upon the educational and experience backgrounds of employees. 10. Excellent computer skills with Microsoft, PowerPoint, and Excel. 12. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and healthcare providers. 14. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in nursing is preferred.
