Overview

The Operations Director Liaison serves as a key partner and trusted "right hand" to an Operations Director, providing day-to-day technical, project, and operational support to drive safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance. This role is designed for seasoned Electric Boat employees to develop broad operational leadership understanding and capability within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will gain both depth and breadth in shipyard operations by working directly alongside Operations leadership on the most critical challenges facing the shipyard today. Assignments will provide firsthand exposure to trade execution, production planning, cross-functional problem solving, and project management while building a strong foundation in operational decision-making.

This position offers a unique platform to learn how multiple operational environments interact across Electric Boat's business and is intended to develop high-potential employees for future leadership roles in Operations and Production Management.

Key Responsibilities

    Partner directly with Operations Directors and Managers to support daily execution and performance of safety, quality, cost, schedule, and continuous improvement objectives
  • Serve as a primary liaison between Operations and cross-functional stakeholders including Engineering, Design, Planning, Quality, Program Office, and NAVY representatives
  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of high-priority and emergent operational projects, including CONOPs initiatives
  • Assist with tracking department performance metrics, identifying gaps, and driving corrective actions
  • Assist with staffing initiatives, including forecasting, new hires, leased labor, and leased labor security plans
  • Drafting memos on behalf of Operations, white paper development, and directorate commitment management
  • Perform self-assessment of organizational health and create directorate safety plans
  • Active participant in company Level-1s, Top Tens, and A-Items
  • Facilitate clear communication of requirements, risks, and deliverables across teams to ensure alignment and timely execution
  • Learn and apply project management fundamentals including scope control, overhead management, budgets/EAC, and daily operational controls
  • Perform independent technical and analytical work to resolve operational issues and improve processes
  • Act as a problem solver and force multiplier for Operations leadership, including the execution of unplanned event resolution, enabling managers to focus on strategic execution

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Operations Management
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters's Degree in Engineering or Operation's Management
  • Demonstrated leadership in academic, military, or professional settings
  • Familiarity with project management, Program Management Professional (PMP) Certification is preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
