Compensation: $57.69-$57.69

Tessera is seeking an experienced Locomotive Field Service Technician. The Locomotive Field Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining diesel-electric locomotives and related rail equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation, while maintaining compliance with all applicable Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and company safety standards.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform daily, periodic, annual, and biennial locomotive inspectionsin accordance withFRA 49 CFR Part 229 Subpart B.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance, servicing, and functional testing of diesel locomotives.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system failures.

  • Repair or replace major locomotive components, including diesel engines, power assemblies, air brake systems, traction motors, generators, trucks, wheels, and axles.

  • Perform air brake testing and calibration in compliance with FRA requirements.

  • Inspect locomotives for oil, fuel, air, and coolant leaks, as well as structural defects.

  • Maintain compliance with FRA safety standards for brake systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.

  • Ensure defective locomotives are repaired prior to service or handled according to FRA non-compliance procedures.

  • Complete and maintain requiredinspectionreports and maintenance records, including defect documentation and corrective actions.

  • Maintain inspection and maintenance documentationin accordance withrequired retention periods.

  • Ensure all workcomplies with49 CFR Part 229 and Part 230 locomotive safety and maintenance standards.

  • Support FRA audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance reviews.

  • Assistwith railroad track inspectionsin accordance with49 CFR Part 213 Track Safety Standards.

  • Identifyand document rail defects, track geometry issues, and deficiencies involving ties, ballast, and fasteners.

  • Perform orassistwith minor track maintenance and repairs, including rail fastening, joint tightening, tie replacement, and ballast stabilization.

  • Support Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) inspection and maintenance compliance requirements.

  • Assistwith corrective actions for unsafe track conditions requiring remedial action.

  • Operate cranes, forklifts, jacks, hoists, rail maintenance tools, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Support locomotive movement, switching operations, and service preparation activities.

  • Perform field repairs and respond to emergency maintenance situations asrequired.

  • Adhere to FRA safety regulations, OSHA requirements, and railroad operating rules such as GCOR.

  • Maintain compliance with On-Track Worker Safety procedures and requirements.

  • Identifyunsafe conditions and implement corrective safety measures.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in closely related field.

  • FRA qualification for inspection and maintenance activities

  • Strong understanding of Diesel engines and mechanical systems and electrical and pneumatic systems.

  • Working knowledge of FRA regulations and inspection requirements.

  • Ability to interpret technical manuals,schematics,and diagrams.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
