Under general supervision of the Unitrans Assistant General Manager of Operations, provide oversight and supervision of Unitrans operations at nights and weekends to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant service. Position leads and supervises all career and student staff in the evenings and weekends and directs career and student activities. Position manages student route supervision and dispatch staff. Direct oversight and management of transit program compliance for federally and state mandated licensing requirements, service hours compliance, and drug and alcohol testing compliance. Ensures adherence to University, Federal, and State policies and procedures including emergency protocols and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Must possess a Commercial Class B license with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements, and possess a Verification of Transit Training Certification.
- Required to hold a valid California Class B driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Bachelor's degree in transportation, logistics, planning, organizational studies, or business, or other related fields or equivalent experience / training
- Experience supervising staff, providing support and guidance, preferably in public transit. Skill to provide leadership, supervise and direct others, and supervise employees while focusing on cultural competency and conflict management.
- 3 years in public transportation service, customer service, or similar industry.
- Experience in providing excellent customer service and resolving customer issues.
- Proven knowledge and skills in the safe operation of transit buses and transit operation principles and services.
- Knowledge of Federal Transit Administration/Department of Transportation Drug & Alcohol policies, California Highway Patrol/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration hours of service rules, and state and federal rules and regulations related to public transit.
- Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively with internal stakeholders, staff, and customers.
- Skill to work independently and in groups.
- Skill to use a computer and basic software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook to prepare clear and concise written documents and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience training student employees.
- Knowledge of or skill to learn University policies, procedures and practices.
- Skill to organize time effectively and the ability to set and meet goals and time-related deadlines.
- Skill to research and interpret changes in laws, procedures and policies.
- Knowledge of record keeping procedures as determined by University, State and Federal standards.

Department Overview
Unitrans is the University-operated public transit service for UC Davis and the City of Davis. Unitrans operates 18 bus lines with 50 buses including modern and vintage double decker buses and operates on weekdays from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM and on weekends and most holidays from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The service transports nearly 4 million people each year and has an annual budget of approximately $10 million. Unitrans is unique in the nation with its student-driven model where UC Davis students operate all the buses and serve in many roles across the department including as dispatchers, supervisors, mechanic assistants, etc.
Responsible for supervision and oversight of Unitrans part-time students after hours/weekend operations, regulatory compliance, and route supervisor program.

Work Environment
