DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Finance Manager, provides primary support in the management of the financial aspects of UC San Diego's intellectual property (IP) portfolio.

IP financial responsibilities include but are not limited to accounts payable, receivables, cash management, journal voucher preparation, general ledger reconciliation, project analysis, and report preparation. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve various issues.

Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Identifies potential risks or problems, independently formulates solutions and makes recommendations to the Office of Innovation and Commercialization's senior staff.

Provides a professional quality of care to customers and contacts in all areas of support. Contacts and customers are equally internal and external to the department. Provides guidance to part-time, student and full-time assistant workers in the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Knowledge of accounting and financial principles. Strong background in fiscal accountability, processes and procedures.

  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Knowledge of financial audits and compliance with university, government, and agency regulations.

  • Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize and perform basic financial analysis assignments. Demonstrated knowledge of financial and departmental digital filing systems to cross-reference for rapid and easy retrieval of information and analysis of financial data.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely. Strong communication skills, oral and written. Demonstrated tact, diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with diversified populations of faculty, staff, and students. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. Proven ability to function as a member of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

  • Excellent service orientation

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to organize work under pressure, meet deadlines with interruptions, anticipate and prioritize workflow in accordance with the campus fiscal cycles. Effective Critical thinking skills.

  • Experience in presenting objective and sometimes confidential solutions to others.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $73,205 - $106,634 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.06 - $51.07

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
