About the Opportunity:
  • The primary purpose of a Machinist is to setup and operate manual & CNC machines to produce precision parts and instruments.
  • Performs a variety of manufacturing operations related to fabrication or machining of precision parts or sheet metal for use in the electronic industry or manufacturing assembly.
  • The position applies knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • The position may need routine machine maintenance and programming capabilities.

What You'll Do:
  • Machines parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates all of the basic machining tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Maintains the tools and machines needed for optimum job performance.
  • Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments, such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
  • Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Works from drawings, work orders, and instructions covering production parts or tooling requirements.
  • Measures, examines, or tests completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers.
  • Sets controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized CNC machine control media.
  • Constructs, modifies, or repairs a wide variety of product parts, subassemblies, and related tooling.
  • Understands and complies with customer specification in part manufacturing.
  • Understands and uses a wide variety of mathematical functions applicable to work tasks.
  • Accurately sets up, and operates CNC machines.
  • Programs, sets up, and runs a vertical machining center for one off prototype parts or production parts run.
Job Requirements
What You'll Bring:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6+ years of Manual and CNC machining experience in a high technology manufacturing environment, including setting up machine tools, lathes, and milling machines.
  • 6+ years of experience reading/interpreting blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
What Sets You Apart:
  • Associate Degree.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge in the operation of all metal working tools and machines, and the ability to determine the most efficient and economical methods of producing all materials and hardware related to or used in the construction of dies, fixtures, gauges, gigs, and tools.
  • Able to set up and operate a variety of machine shop or sheet metal fabrication equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment on research and solution development.
  • Experience with CAD cam (Mastercam and Autocad), Haas and Hurco controls.
  • Programming for Mastercam.
  • Experience making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds and speeds.
  • Able to work independently, without direction, with all types of processes and prototype development instructions, including prints, sketches, schematics, memos, notes etc.
  • Able to work with minimum supervisory guidance.
