Job Function Summary: Involves managing or performing the administrative services or managing the full general operations of an academic or non-academic organization(s). Administrative services include activities in finance and human resources and may also include IT, facilities, or student services. General management activities include long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing all activities of multi-disciplinary departments through subordinate management staff. Generic Scope Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. Custom Scope The ZSFG Operations Manager is responsible for supervising the administrative services of the Department of Emergency Medicine at ZSFG. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and the ZSFG Division Chief. Administrative services include all or some of the following functions: IT, facilities, student services, contracts and grants, budgetary financial management and / or human resources The individual supervises support staff and/or small number of professional staff within or outside the scope of main business activities (e.g., human resources, facilities, etc.). The individual performs short and long-term planning for the function. The incumbent in this position regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The individual exercises excellent judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. This position requires the incumbent to have a high degree of independent decision making ability, organization, initiative, ability to prioritize work and various tasks accurately and independently, sensitivity, ability to interact with many diverse personalities and to function effectively under the stress of competing priorities; advanced technical skills, attention to detail, efficient use of time management and the ability to perform with little or no supervision is a must. Assignments are often given on a project-basis and the incumbent is expected to manage the entire problem-solving process: gather and sort information, identify potential solutions and present the finished product in the form of a written recommendation or completed project. In addition, it is the responsibility of the incumbent to apply certain knowledge and training expertise to anticipate issues before they arise, reprioritize as events change, anticipate the needs of involved parties and initiate action independently to resolve those issues and solve problems.
