Description

The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Fabrication equipment, building systems, and related support infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports production by reducing equipment downtime, completing preventive and corrective maintenance, responding to facility issues, and ensuring repairs are completed correctly and safely.
The position requires strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting ability, along with the discipline to follow lockout/tagout, safety procedures, maintenance standards, and proper documentation. The Fabrication and Building Maintenance Technician works closely with supervision, production employees, vendors, and other support groups to protect safety, quality, delivery, cost, and overall facility reliability.

Scope and Responsibilities:

Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
* Actively supports a safe and healthy work environment for self and others
* Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Fabrication equipment including welders, press brakes, lasers, stackers, paint line equipment, material handling equipment, and related support systems
* Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues that affect equipment performance, production flow, or employee safety
* Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and corrective repairs to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability
* Support building maintenance needs including lighting, doors, air lines, exhaust systems, water leaks, building fixtures, shop infrastructure, and general facility repairs
* Assist with facility improvement projects, equipment moves, utility connections, layout changes, and other building support activities as needed
* Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and repair documentation to support accurate troubleshooting and repair
* Use meters, hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and precision measurement tools to complete assigned work safely and correctly
* Identify abnormal equipment, facility, or safety conditions early and escalate concerns appropriately
* Follow lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety practices, and all company safety requirements before performing maintenance work
* Communicate repair status, downtime concerns, parts needs, and follow-up actions clearly to supervision and affected production areas
* Support outside contractors, vendors, and service providers when specialized equipment, building, or facility repairs are required
* Maintain clean and organized work areas during and after repairs, including removal of tools, parts, debris, fluids, and maintenance-related materials
* Document maintenance work, repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance activity, and open follow-up items as required
* Support continuous improvement efforts that strengthen safety, equipment reliability, building condition, production flow, and overall department performance
* Responsibilities may be reassigned by the supervisor as business needs evolve

Education/Certification:
* High School diploma or equivalent required
* Vocational training in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, mechanical repair, facilities maintenance, or related technical field preferred
* Associate degree in AC/DC electrical, industrial maintenance, motion control, mechanical systems, or related field preferred
* Forklift, aerial lift, or overhead crane certification preferred if applicable to the area, or ability to obtain

Skills:
* Proven maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, or facility maintenance environment
* Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair production equipment and building systems
* Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
* Familiarity with Fabrication equipment such as welders, press brakes, lasers, stackers, paint line equipment, and related support systems
* Basic understanding of PLCs, controller logic, machine controls, and industrial automation preferred
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and repair instructions
* Experience using electrical meters, diagnostic tools, hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement equipment
* Demonstrated discipline with lockout/tagout, safety procedures, equipment guarding, and safe maintenance practices
* Ability to recognize recurring problems, abnormal conditions, and repair risks early and escalate appropriately
* Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and adjust priorities based on downtime, safety, and production needs
* Strong communication skills with the ability to explain issues, repair status, parts needs, and follow-up actions clearly
* Strong reliability, accountability, and ability to work independently while keeping leadership informed
* Ability to maintain an organized work area, clean up after repairs, and support 5S expectations
* Ability to operate a computer and use related maintenance, production, or documentation software
* Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, or per company standard
