Description

Under general supervision of the Technology Center for Genomics & Bioinformatics (TCGB) (formerly Clinical Microarray Core) Director, and reports directly to the technical lead at TCGB, the LAB ASSISTANT II performs a widevariety of technical and administrative procedures in the Technology Center for Genomics & Bioinformatics at the department Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, including but not limited to sample preparation, shipping and receiving, making reagents and solution, ordering, calibrating equipment, and answering phone calls.

The candidate must be highly motivated, and should have a college degree in relevant fields. Prior experience in a laboratory setting is highly preferred.

Qualifications

Skill in performing mathematical calculations to include adding, subtracting,

multiplying and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals with and without a

calculator to derive results

Ability to promote and use interpersonal skills to provide excellent customer service

Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and to promote teamwork in

others

Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal

supervision

Ability to set priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job

responsibilities

Ability to organize workflow to meet the expected turnaround time for assigned

laboratory tasks

Skill in performing multiple tasks simultaneously

Work available hours/shift/days and extra hours as required meeting departmental

needs

Demonstrate practical experience in molecular and genomics testing

Demonstrate skill in reading and comprehending scientific or general procedures or

protocols in standard English text, such as instrument manuals, procedure manuals,

safety manuals, etc
