THE POSITION

As a Corrections General Industries Factory Foreperson with the Department of Corrections, you will help keep production moving with purpose and direction. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on guiding inmate workers and supporting the daily operations of upholstery and laser engraving shops within the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Smithfield. It emphasizes safe practices, accurate records, and efficient production processes. As a Corrections General Industries Factory Foreperson, you will perform the following duties:

  • Worker Training: Instruct inmate workers in manufacturing methods, equipment use, and safe operational practices
  • Safety Oversight: Maintain a secure work area through searches, movement monitoring, and enforcement of tool and material controls
  • Operational Tracking: Use a database to follow orders, materials, and production activity while coordinating needed purchases
  • Production Support: Review records and help set product goals to ensure efficient and accurate output
  • Quality Improvement: Recommend new or updated equipment to strengthen production quality and overall shop performance

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the production of goods or services; or
  • An associate degree in industrial technology, operations management, business administration, or a related field; and one year of work experience in the production of goods or services; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of work experience in the production of goods or services.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
