Role overview:

At Ferring, we are on a mission to transform the treatment of radicular leg pain from lumbar disc herniation (LDH) with a novel, only-in-class intradiscal therapy that offers patients an alternative to existing conservative or surgical options. The Medical Science Liaison - Interventional Spine (MSL) serves as the primary fieldbased scientific expert for engaging healthcare professionals and key stakeholders involved in the management of lumbar disc herniation and related spine conditions.

This role delivers accurate, balanced, and clinically relevant medical information while building trusted scientific relationships with key opinion leaders across interventional pain, physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R), orthopedic spine surgery, and neurosurgery. The MSL plays a critical role in prelaunch planning, launch execution, and postlaunch scientific support, ensuring appropriate clinical adoption and ongoing evidence generation.

Scientific Leader in Spine Care - You are deeply passionate about advancing patient outcomes in lumbar disc herniation and spine-related disorders. You bring strong scientific curiosity and clinical insight to your work and thrive in peertopeer scientific exchange with spine specialists.

Strategic Medical Partner - You understand the critical role Medical Affairs plays across prelaunch, launch, and postlaunch phases. You collaborate effectively with internal partners while maintaining independence, compliance, and scientific integrity in the field.

Field-Based Medical Expert- You are motivated by impact. Whether supporting evidence generation, educating healthcare professionals on emerging nonsurgical spine interventions, or gathering field insights to shape medical strategy, you are committed to scientific excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to unsolicited requests with accurate, balanced, and timely scientific information regarding Ferring's interventional spine therapy, lumbar disc herniation, and nonsurgical spine interventions

  • Establish and maintain scientific relationships with key opinion leaders, academic centers, and communitybased spine specialists

  • Support prelaunch activities, including KOL identification and mapping, early scientific engagement and diseasestate education, field insights gathering to inform medical strategy and unmet needs

  • Support launch execution, including engagement of early adopters and centers of excellence, scientific exchange on clinical data, patient selection, and realworld use considerations, identification and communication of adoption barriers and field insights

  • Identify and support InvestigatorInitiated Studies (IIS) and Phase IV/postmarketing research

  • Provide scientific support for clinical trial awareness, site identification, and study execution

  • Deliver fieldbased medical education on disease state, treatment landscape, and evolving standards of care

  • Provide compliant, nonpromotional scientific training and ongoing support for commercial teams

  • Monitor and communicate competitive intelligence, treatment trends, and emerging spine clinical data

  • Participate in advisory boards, speaker trainings, investigator meetings, and major scientific congresses

  • Assist in development of medical materials, slide decks, and scientific resources

  • Support processing of medical education grant requests and systematic field insights collection

  • Ensure timely documentation and reporting of adverse events and product complaints

  • Maintain current knowledge of spine care pathways, interventional techniques, and clinical practice evolution

Requirements:

  • Advanced doctoral degree required (M.D., D.O., Pharm.D., Ph.D.)

  • PhD Candidate specializing in Neuroscience OR 2+ years of Medical Science Liaison experience

  • Relevant clinical or research experience in spine, musculoskeletal, or related fields (including doctoral research and postdoctoral training)

  • Experience or strong interest in spine, interventional pain, neurosurgery, orthopedics, or PM&R preferred

  • Candidates with a PhD and demonstrated expertise in spine biology, biomechanics, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply

  • Understanding of clinical trial design, data interpretation, and evidencebased medicine

  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, OIG compliance, and industry standards

  • Excellent scientific communication and presentation skills with ability to engage in peertopeer exchange

  • Strong relationshipbuilding and networking skills with clinical stakeholders

  • Analytical and criticalthinking skills to interpret and communicate complex clinical data

  • Ability to work crossfunctionally with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial teams

  • High emotional intelligence and strong stakeholder awareness

  • Prior experience supporting product prelaunch or launch activities preferred

  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 60% or more

Note: These are field-based roles. We seek candidates who are willing and able to travel 60 % or more of the time. Successful candidates are required to reside within the territory and within close proximity to a major airport hub.
