Primary Duties

  • Complies with all plant administrative rules.
  • Complies with all applicable operating procedures.
  • Obeys the plant safety rules.
  • Knowledgeable regarding preservative handling and wastewater treatment.
  • Obtain and maintain SC Class "D" Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant License.
  • Perform all tests for Biological and Chemical Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Maintain all daily and weekly logs.
  • Performs housekeeping in wastewater plant areas including, sumps, floors, and equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all pumps, valves, and equipment pertaining to the wastewater system.
  • Working knowledge of drum/waste handling procedures and labeling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all required SH&E responsibilities.

This employee may or will manage hazardous waste.

  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Training Requirements and Outline
    • For new employees: Initial training must take place before assignment to a job involving hazardous waste. Employees who have not yet received this training must be supervised at all times.
    • Refresher training: Koppers requires annual refresher training for all employees that will or may manage hazardous waste.

      • Familiarize employees with the purpose and content of the RCRA Contingency Plan (SPCC,PPC,SPCC,ERP,etc).
      • Instruct employees on correct hazardous waste management and handling.
      • Discuss the records and documentation and that are required for hazardous waste management activities.
      • Discuss the proper management of used oil and universal waste.
      • Instruct employees on the principles and promote employee discussion of specific opportunities for waste minimization.
      • Inform the employees of steps they should take if they notice problems at the facility related to hazardous waste management.

SH&E Responsibilities

  • Comply with all SH&E regulations and corporate and plant SH&E policies and procedures.
  • Promptly and properly reports all incidents, injuries, damages, spills and/or releases.
  • Promptly reports and, if possible, corrects all unsafe acts and/or conditions.
  • Wears protective equipment (PPE) required by the applicable PPE hazard.
  • Assists in cleaning catch basins, troughs, filters, and sumps.
  • Manage hazardous waste produced from waste water and stored in appropriate properly labeled container.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Pass preemployment medical screening.
  • Qualified as a powered industrial equipment operator.
  • Must obtain a SC Class "D" Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant License within permitted time.
  • Trained as authorized personnel and/or affected personnel for lockout/tagout.
  • Authorized as a permit confined space attendant and/or entrant.
  • Demonstrates acceptable retention level for the required training elements by receiving a Level 5 or above on a Work Keys Test for Literacy and Applied Math.
  • Trained to handle hazardous waste.
  • DOT Hazmat Training
  • Medically cleared to wear required respiratory protection.
