ATI is currently looking for an SEM Technician within our lab department at our Bakers facility in NC. As an SEM Technician, you will be an integral part of a team that is responsible for giving valuable feedback to our engineering department regarding the overall quality, grain boundaries, and defects within the melt, providing the number of metallurgical data points.

In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing the metal sample by utilizing known parameters, using instruments to look at the grain structure to view elements and abnormalities, and reporting results. To be successful in this role, the technician will need to possess problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, analytical skills, and a background in quality.

Additional Responsibilities:



  • Perform microstructural evaluations by use of the scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive x-ray system, and wavelength dispersive x-ray system
  • Primary duties are to analyze and interpret microstructure from a variety of sources provided by both internal and external customers
  • Determine the type, condition, and sample preparation needed for proper evaluation based on the mechanical history (including thermomechanical history)
  • Organize user programs such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory or other outside laboratories when information is needed that exceeds our in-house capabilities
  • Schedule and prioritize samples
  • Maintain and calibrate instrumentation following a definite procedure
  • Troubleshoot problems
  • Inventory and order supplies
  • Requirements also include the development of innovative quantitative methods and analytical techniques to support ongoing R&D projects
  • Perform and develop sample preparation techniques to enhance microstructural phases or precipitates when observed in the scanning electron microscope


Basic Qualifications:



  • 2-year technical degree or 5 years experience in a quality or technical role


Skills



  • Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • PC literate with proficiency in spreadsheets, database software, and word processing
  • Ability to read and follow written procedures
