The Defense Sector at Leidos has a career opportunity for a talented Technical Trainer in support of the Army's Synthetic Training Environment (STE). We are seeking a field trainer and curriculum developer to support the creation, validation, delivery and training of a complex distributed simulation-based training system. The position will require a fair amount of independence and will interact daily with a broad range of other technical skills to complete the tasks needed. An outgoing and confident personality that seeks to find the necessary data and transform it into innovative training solutions is required. This position will have primary responsibility for leading training classes at fielding sites for the STE Training Simulation Software and Training Management Tool (TSS/TMT). When not performing fielding training, candidates will create training videos and quick reference material for the advanced distributed learning (ADL) system embedded in the TSS/TMT software. Position requires maturity and the ability to operate in a fluid and dynamic environment where the candidate will need to take initiative to define the correct answers and initiate contact to resolve uncertainties. This will be a collaborative position in an Agile team-based program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and update training content in the form of slides, courseware, videos, quick reference cards, and guides for an embedded advanced distributed learning (ADL system.
  • Perform instructor-led training at STE fielding sites, guiding up to 10 (ten) trainees through the use and management of the TSS/TMT, including on-equipment practical exercises.
  • Collaborate with and communicate to fielding leads on training progress and dependencies during fieldings.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of ADDIE, Adult Learning Theory, Classroom Instruction, Distance Learning, and Instructional System Design to day-to-day tasking.
  • Demonstrate a good aptitude for problem solving, be organized and able to communicate at a high level.
  • Translate technical jargon for both military standard operating procedures and software development into more easily understandable language.
  • Understand and communicate with technical staff and military personnel regarding training products on a regular basis.
  • Work is performed on site at customer locations/offices/laboratories and at fielding locations/army installations across the country.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA degree in related technical field and 6+ years of experience in training development
  • Must be able to integrate with developers and subject matter experts to determine instructional requirements, collect data, customize design proposals, and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Proficiency with Camtasia or Premier video production and editing processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of software development and testing processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of instructional design and development practices.
  • Able to multi-task, self-assign work, and function in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with ability to brief and evaluate student personnel.
  • Ability to lead training classes with 10+ trainees and confidently guide their learning.
  • US Citizenship and active DoD SECRETsecurity clearance or the ability to obtain a DoD SECRET security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience training US Army Personnel and/or development of Army Training Programs.
  • Experience working on software development projects, especially Agile based development programs, within DOD, US Army, PEO-STRI and/or other military branches.
  • Currently possess an active DoD SECRET security clearance
  • Experience in development of training for virtual training devices.
