Job Summary Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a Student Services Specialist. This position will be responsible for assisting with a case management approach by advising students on goal setting, occupational degree, and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, testing (placement and programmatic), registration, academic progress, and satisfactory progress toward certificate/degree using PeopleSoft (SIS) and other technology. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position is fully in-person Essential Functions 50% - Provides 1:1 advising and support services in-person, hybrid, and virtually to ensure successful progress toward degree completion in assigned Fields of Interest (FOI) and/or specialty student populations. Guides students on goal setting, decision making, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, and academic progress using PeopleSoft and other technology. Identifies academic options, including extracurricular activities, study abroad programs, research, and internships. Advises students on selecting options best suited to their goals, interests, and skills. Connects students with additional support services and resources as needed. 25% - Supports group advising, new student orientation, and other departmental service areas as needed. Prepares and presents at events/activities that support student success, including degree information sessions, student groups/organizations, specialty populations, graduation, and other identified events. 15% - Participates in enrollment and retention projects related to student learning, success, and retention. Maintains program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional materials, sharing as needed. Assists with consortium agreements, graduation applications, unofficial transcript evaluations, and other processing/requests as needed. 10% - Attends departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities. Performs other duties as assigned, commensurate with the grade level of the position. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one (1) year of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR High school diploma/GED, and three (3) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications A. One (1) or more years of experience working in academic advising, admissions and records, recruitment and outreach, welcome/information center, and/or financial aid in a college or university setting B. One (1) year experience working with students in a higher education environment while adhering to federal and state requirements (i.e., FERPA, lawful presence/residency determination, etc.) C. One (1) year experience with guided pathways providing student support and academic program selection using fields of interest D. One (1) year experience delivering presentations to large groups E. One (1) year experience working with cohorts of students in a highvolume, fastpaced environment F. One (1) year experience utilizing an online customer service or student support queue system (e.g., Qless). G. One (1) year experience providing academic advisement or student support within the Health Sciences Field of Interest (FOI). H. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years. Special Working Conditions 1. Work hours are typically standard, however, there are weekends and evenings that may be required 2.
