Core Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop, test, implement, and maintain protection and control (P&C) system standards, including philosophy documents, relay setting guidelines, calculations, configuration files, drawings, and test templates.
- Research industry best practices and emerging technologies to continuously enhance and modernize established P&C standards.
- Perform engineering analyses, evaluate new hardware and software solutions, and support the deployment of protection system upgrade initiatives.
- Support PRSI department initiatives by implementing new strategies, processes, and programs to improve the design, operation, and reliability of P&C systems.
- Provide technical support to other PRSI functions, including protection system asset management and remote monitoring and analytics of substation P&C devices.
- Assist in managing vendor performance by conducting technical reviews and providing input on contractor deliverables and work quality.
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to implement relay protection standards, gather feedback, and manage expectations.
- Conduct technical reviews of relay protection scopes to ensure designs comply with approved standards and engineering requirements.
- Deliver technical and safetyrelated presentations to organizational and executivelevel audiences.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of work experience. Minimum of 1 year of engineering work experience in relay protection.
Relevant Work Experience
- Practical experience in the design of relay protection systems at transmission, sub-transmission or distribution level, required.
- Must possess superior oral and written communication skills, champion change and have the ability to influence others in order to improve the management process, required.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and VISIO, required.
- Experience with various microprocessor relay platforms and software, preferred.
- Working knowledge of PSS/E CAPE, Aspen or equivalent fault study analysis tools, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
- Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
- Stand to use/operate office equipment for the duration of the workday
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel throughout the company service territory and work at company locations as needed.
- Ability to wear the required PPE as needed.
- Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor conditions, and in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in power plants and high voltage substations.
