Overview

The Estimator works closely with management, operations, and the estimating team in the review of project plans, requirements, and specifications. The Estimator shall have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs, and engineering principles. The Estimator must be confident working with estimating and project management teams on projects of varying sizes and generating comprehensive proposals and budgets.



Responsibilities

    Establish relationships with current customers
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of services and pricing structure provided by upper management.
  • Perform take-offs
  • Assist/work on public bids.
  • Obtain subcontractor quotes and vendor quotes
  • Coordinate the receipt of bid documents and the submission of the bid proposals with the project/estimating coordinators.
  • Review and revise letters of intent (LOI)
  • Coordinate with project management the preparation of a detailed scope of work.
  • Review and revise scopes.
  • Follow up on submitted proposals
  • Regularly meet with management to review weekly estimating/project management progress and to review the estimating calendar
  • The Estimator identifies project labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, written specifications and related documents
  • Conducts site visits and attends pre-bid meetings to understand the project scope
  • Evaluate subcontractor bids to bid documents and plans to ensure that the full scope of work was considered
  • Calculates costs of subcontract labor, general conditions, and materials
  • Develop and maintain relationships with company vendors, clients, and subcontractors
  • Present prepared estimates to management and participate in client project negotiations
  • Manage bid pricing from all vendors and prepare detailed cost analysis
  • Coordinate with the estimating team to ensure each project is properly scoped and coordinated among all trades
  • Assist operations and purchasing departments with change orders and proposal development
  • Prepare for bid days by attending review meetings, preparing y-sheets, reviewing proposals and coordinating with subcontractors


Qualifications

  • Must possess a working knowledge of commercial construction documentation and pricing
  • Ability to read plans and specifications and translate them into estimates
  • BS/BA in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience estimating commercial construction projects
  • Ability to communicate collaboratively; team player and balanced in approach
  • Well organized, flexible, detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task
  • Experience working with commercial or civil construction projects
  • Advanced computer skills with estimating software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

  • Constantly required to see to utilize computer screens and monitors to perform job duties including reading & writing, as well as when presenting information and communicating with others.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear to communicate with employees, candidates, vendors, and others.
  • Frequently required to reach with arms and hands performing repetitive motions and using finger dexterity to work primarily at a computer keyboard and with a mouse.
  • Frequently required to sit, and occasionally required to stand or walk to move around primarily in an office environment.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • This position may require up to 10% regional travel with occasional increase in travel demands based on business needs.
