System Safety Engineer

Avion Solutions Inc., an employee-owned company, is seeking candidates for a System Safety Engineer to support CPE Aviation. This position is located in Huntsville, AL.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

• Conduct meetings with internal PMO Staff, matrix support personnel, and contractor personnel to determine the status of safety programs.

• Evaluate contractor system safety documents for technical competence, completeness, and accuracy.

• Lead, guide, and mentor the workforce regarding complex problems associated with system safety.

• Attend and contribute to the System Safety Working Group and Safety IPTs.

• Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and industry standards.

• Prepare, review, and approve major reports and/or policies for internal and external distribution.

• Brief senior leadership on the status of system safety activities.

• Coordinate the artifact review among the AMCOM Safety Office, SRD, and PM stakeholders.

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

• A bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience is required.

• Experience in analyzing safety regulations and standards and developing mitigation plans and strategies.

• Experience and knowledge with commercial and military safety standards, practices, and regulations such as MIL-STD-882, AR 385-10, AMCOM 385-16, DO-254, SAE ARP 4754, SAE ARP 4761, etc.

• Experience and the ability to perform detailed and complex calculations.

• Knowledge of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced systems concepts, assess specifications, and perform system integration.

• Technical leadership on engineering-related projects and briefing senior-level government personnel.

• Must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD security clearance.

• Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Knowledge of Department of Defense acquisition and life cycle management policies, procedures, and practices
