Job Purpose Prepare and/or review KARL STORZ North America (KSEA & Subs, KSVEA & Subs, and KSE) federal, state, and local tax compliance and support audits and tax research. This includes US federal and state income tax returns, quarterly estimates/extensions, income tax provisions under ASC 740, R&D credit calculations, and foreign withholding tax filings/documentation. Ensure tax compliance is accurate, timely, and defensible-primarily for federal and state income taxes, in coordination with sales/use/property tax responsibilities and other internal stakeholders. Job Duties / Core Responsibilities
- Prepare and/or review assigned companies' federal, state, and local income tax returns, including quarterly estimated payments and extension requests (minimal oversight).
- Prepare amended returns when required.
- Plan and prepare annual federal and state R&D credit calculations (including California, Massachusetts, and Texas) with complete documentation of tax positions.
- Prepare annual year-end income tax provisions under ASC 740, including tax return to provision reconciliations by the accounting/audit timeline.
- Ensure ongoing compliance by monitoring income tax nexus across states and tracking relevant legislative changes.
- Support, facilitate, and/or manage tax audits:
- Identify potential exposure areas in advance
- Obtain requested documents quickly to reduce audit cycle time
- Anticipate auditor questions and stay prepared
- Plan what analyses/records will be submitted and how they will be presented
- Respond to federal and state assessment notices and help defend company positions.
- Prepare US federal and state income tax returns for the Storz family.
- Prepare foreign withholding tax requirements and filings; maintain withholding documentation and communicate requirements to relevant departments.
- Perform tax research and resolve tax issues as needed.
- Provide technical support to other departments on transaction structure.
- Assist the Tax Director with special projects/studies.
- Continuously improve tools and workflows for tax and financial data review/analysis (e.g., Microsoft Power Apps).
Minimum Requirements Required Experience
- 4-6 years of federal and multi-state corporate tax compliance experience
Education / Certifications
Technical Skills
- Solid knowledge of tax laws and ability to perform tax research
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and ASC 740
- Strong analytical, communication, and writing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and tax/finance tools, including preferred exposure to:
- SAP
- OneSource
- BNA Fixed Assets
- RIA Checkpoint
- (or equivalent tools)

Preferred
- 3+ years at a Big 4 firm
- CPA and/or Master's in Taxation; member of a CPA professional society
