Who You Are:

Versar Global Solutions, on behalf of the DHS Homeland Security Enterprise Network (HSEN) Engineering Support Services Contract, is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support ongoing WAN engineering and operations, including on site data center activities at the DHS facility in Ashburn, VA.

The ideal candidate will be proficient across a broad range of network technologies including, but not limited to, Cisco routing and switching, F5 GTM/LTM, Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco SD WAN (Viptela), and Cisco ACI. Familiarity with Zscaler and Cloudflare is considered a plus.

This individual will support solution design and implementation activities, technology refresh efforts, cloud integrations and migrations, and Tier 3/4 incident management troubleshooting.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with network architects, engineers, and DHS stakeholders to design, install, and configure network solutions to meet business and security requirements.
  • Collaborate with DHS HQ, DHS Components, and application stakeholders to design, implement, and support network solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Develop and submit recommendations for new or updated configurations within the HSEN Architecture to incorporate emerging technologies, new releases, maintenance requirements, or evolving mission needs.
  • Provide onsite data center support at the DHS Ashburn facility on an as needed basis, including cable management, racking equipment, and console access for troubleshooting.
  • Architect, deploy, and manage Cisco ACI fabrics across data center, hybrid, and multi cloud environments-optimizing policies, contracts, and EPGs while leveraging APIs, automation, and orchestration tools for scalable and secure network operations.
  • Develop WAN network solutions aligned with DHS architecture and design standards.
  • Conduct "as is" analyses of existing network technologies and recommend changes to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Produce systems engineering artifacts, including requirements documents, design packages, diagrams, and other project deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot network incidents, provide root cause analysis, and document findings in ServiceNow and knowledge repositories such as SharePoint.
  • Participate in after-hours work for network change implementations and participate in the on call rotation for escalations from the Network Operations Security Center (NOSC) during nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Establish effective working relationships with vendors to ensure alignment with current and future technical requirements.

What You'll Bring:

  • BA / BS (relevant field); relevant IT experience may be a substitute for education.
  • 10+ years of demonstrated network engineering and architecture experience designing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting complex enterprise networks.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco routing, switching, and firewall platforms (e.g., ISR, ASR, CSR, ASA, Nexus, TACACS/ISE).
  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., BGP, EIGRP, OSPF) and network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, GRE, IPsec, VRF).
  • Solid understanding of MPLS, DMVPN, and SD WAN technologies.
  • Proficiency with routing/switching, firewalls, load balancers, and proxy servers.
  • High level architectural and operational experience supporting complex networks.
  • Experience facilitating network requirements sessions.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Ability to create and update network diagrams (Visio).
  • Previous experience supporting federal networks is a plus.
  • Experience producing design documentation, diagrams, and engineering artifacts.
  • Must be resourceful and able to learn a large, complex, and evolving network.
  • Must be proficient in English, both written and verbal, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate's start date.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $105,000 - $133,000 per year

Versar Global Solutions provides the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the Company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
