Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an ADA and FMLA Specialist to join our Compliance team. This position works a 9x80 schedule based out of the REC facility, with every other Friday off.

Idaho National Laboratory needs an ADA and FMLA Specialist to support energy and national security initiatives by developing, implementing, and administering human resources compliance programs.

This role ensures organizational compliance with federal requirements, contractual obligations, and internal policies through riskbased assessments, requirements management, and continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities include assisting with the development, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of policies and procedures related to the ADA and FMLA; ensuring compliance with federal and state laws; protecting privacy and confidentiality; collaborating with key partners to identify and mitigate risk; coordinating with the legal department to ensure ADA and FMLA compliance; maintaining documentation of compliance activities; assisting with responses to ADA and FMLArelated incidents; and staying current on state and federal privacy laws.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of the compliance program, including design intake, risk assessment, policy application, mitigation, documentation, and final disposition, while exercising independent judgment on complex cases and escalating when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance of operations, programs, and procedures with federal and state requirements, contractual obligations, and internal policies, using a riskbased approach to assess activities against relevant regulations and standards.
  • Facilitate creation and process improvement by addressing policy, process, and workflow gaps, risk, human performance improvement (HPI), and inefficiencies; explore automation and technology solutions to streamline ADA and FMLA processes and enhance the employee experience; and address knowledgebase inconsistencies to ensure consistent processing, outcomes, and team alignment in employment decisions.
  • Evaluate ADA and FMLA procedures for compliance, identify areas of noncompliance, and propose solutions to address gaps while ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Evaluate ADA and FMLA risks, identify mitigation strategies, and monitor mitigation progress. Stay updated on evolving ADA and FMLA regulations and create tools, such as compliance matrices, to monitor and ensure processes and procedures remain aligned with current requirements.
  • Provide clear, proactive guidance, customer service, and training to employees on ADA and FMLA compliance, regulatory obligations, and responses to related inquiries.
  • Stay informed on state and federal employment laws, participate in working groups to advance compliance, and ensure appropriate employment procedures, forms, and notices are maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

Level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience, or Master's degree and 2 years of related experience, or PhD and 2 years of related experience
  • In lieu of a degree, 11 years of directly related experience may be considered

Level 4:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 9 years of related experience, or Master's degree and 6 years of related experience, or PhD and 4 years of related experience
  • In lieu of a degree, 15 years of directly related experience may be considered

For both Level 3 and Level 4:

  • Experience researching, interpreting, and applying employment regulations or policies in HR, compliance, or legal environments related to the ADA and FMLA.
  • Experience supporting compliance activities related to ADA and FMLA (e.g., assessments, gap analyses, corrective actions, audits, or performance assurance processes)
  • Experience handling confidential or sensitive information, including personnel records
  • Experience providing guidance, customer service, or training on policies, processes, or compliance expectations
  • Relevant experience aligned with the level of the position
  • Related experience in lieu of a degree may include a closely related associate degree, certification, license, or specialized training or designation

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Possess understanding of the Department of Energy (DOE) as well as its facilities and management and operating contractor system.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is Level 3: $79,344 min - 162,732 - Level 4: $95,256 min - $195,288 max. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
