Job Summary:

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) at the University of Colorado Anschutz provides comprehensive guidance and expertise to support investigators through every step of the research lifecycle. The OVCR seeks an accomplished Digital Communications Manager to improve and amplify essential internal communication within the OVCR and between the OVCR and the campus research community. This is a technical and creative role whose efforts will improve existing digital communication while working collaboratively with a dynamic and friendly team with diverse expertise.

The Digital Communications Manager will be proficient in web content management, utilizing email campaign software, and managing social media platforms. To be successful in the role, applicants must demonstrate the ability to independently assess needs and make informed decisions. The applicant must be a skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, project management skills and the ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

60% - Web Content Management

  • Work collaboratively with the Research Communications Director in revamping the existing OVCR website in Sitefinity, including updating website architecture; building and sunsetting webpages; building and maintaining website libraries; and writing, sourcing, editing and publishing content.

  • In partnership with the Research Communications Director and OVCR teams, develop and implement web governance and content management strategies and plans, including a schedule of regular meetings with OVCR teams to ensure timely proactive planning of web updates.

  • Establish and independently manage a web editing request intake process for the OVCR to ensure timely updates of information on the OVCR website.

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) for consistency in the web content management approach. SOP should address file naming conventions, file management protocols, content categorization and tagging protocols, and checklists for meeting accessibility and brand standards, and will be shared with OVCR employees who have access to the content management system.

  • Serve as the primary owner of Siteimprove dashboard and promptly resolve identified issues in website issues in performance, accessibility, content quality and SEO.

  • Ensure website and linked documents adhere to university brand and accessibility standards.

15% - eComm Management (Marketing Cloud, Cvent, Salesforce)

  • In partnership with the Research Communications Director, lead the planning, development and execution of newsletters in Marketing Cloud targeted to OVCR employees and to the campus research community.

  • In partnership with the Research Communications Director, plan, manage and deliver executive communications in Marketing Cloud on behalf of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the leadership team.

  • Liaise with OVCR teams and campus eComm Specialist to manage requests for building audience lists in Salesforce.

  • Build and manage event registration websites in Cvent for signature OVCR events and provide relevant event registration information to event planning teams.

  • Produce e-invitations in Marketing Cloud for signature OVCR events.

  • Ensure eComm communications adhere to university brand and accessibility standards.

15% - Content Creation and Editing

  • Independently write content as assigned and assist OVCR teams in writing and editing content for digital communications. Examples include web content, news articles, newsletter content, social media posts, etc.

  • Source appropriate icons, infographics and images from the campus photo library, Adobe Stock and other approved sources.

  • Ensure content adheres to university brand and accessibility standards.

4% - Social Media Management

  • Collaborate with the Research Communications Director, to independently manage the develop and execution of social media plans and posts for the Vice Chancellor for Research's social media accounts (i.e., LinkedIn, X).

  • Manage the OVCR YouTube Channel (e.g., upload and organize videos, enter metadata, support OVCR staff who have access to YouTube Channel).

  • Ensure social media content adheres to university brand and accessibility standards.

3% - Reporting & Analysis

  • Utilizing Google Analytics, track website performance data and make recommendations for increasing user engagement.

  • Utilizing Marketing Cloud, track newsletter performance data and provide recommendations for increasing audience engagement.

  • Utilizing social media metrics, track social media performance data and provide recommendations for increasing audience engagement.

3% - Other

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with OVCR leadership and teams and other offices across CU Anschutz, including the Office of Communications, Office of Information Technology, schools and college communications personnel, hospital partners communications personnel, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business or a directly related field from an accredited institution

  • 4-6 years of professional experience in digital communication.

    • An advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to digital communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with web content management systems, preferably Sitefinity.

  • Proficiency using e-newsletter campaign software, preferably the eComm Suite (e.g., Marketing Cloud).

  • Experience managing social media accounts, preferably on LinkedIn and X.

  • Ability to collect and analyze data on the performance of digital communications and to make recommendations for improvement.

  • Design skills a plus, preferably utilizing Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Excellent written communication, copy editing and proofreading skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Adaptable self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively with team members.

  • Able to manage diverse workload; skilled at handling multiple projects and priorities.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $65,105 - $82,813

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
