Position Highlights

The Biological Core Lab at the College of Nursing seeks a Research Technician III to join their team on a part-time basis. The person selected for this position will perform standard laboratory procedures for ongoing human clinical research projects, including those funded by NIH and other funders, to ensure that goals and objectives of the projects are accomplished. This person in this position will also perform other clinical research duties, including recruiting and interacting with participants for ongoing clinical trials, and will also participate in data acquisition and analysis required for preparation and submission of grant reports, grant applications, and manuscripts.

This position will work in a BSL2 laboratory environment and while doing so will follow Universal Precautions at all times, including appropriate use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform and assist with a variety of ongoing and moderately complex experiments.
  • Collaborate with other personnel on bench procedures to propose and implement solutions to experimental challenges.
  • Provide recommendations on laboratory methods, protocols, and procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Conduct interviews and interact with study participants to accomplish research goals, including coordinating schedules, handling intake, maintaining records, and files.
  • Maintain detailed records of studies, organizing data, and analyzing study data to perform moderately complex calculations.
  • Assist in library/literature searches.
  • Maintain sample inventory, process biological samples from human research participants; label samples and prepare them for testing or mailing, and analyze samples at the bench using existing methodologies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory methods and equipment, including plate readers, plate washers, and cryogenic systems.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of studies including sample inventory, organize data, and prepare data for analyses.
  • Ability to conduct library/literature searches.
  • Ability to learn new laboratory analytic and sample handling procedures.
  • Ability to competently interact with research participants by telephone or internet video.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related science field or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Significant education and work experience in biological laboratory settings and working with study participants in research settings.
