| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Associate Provost for Academic Programs is a 12-month administrative appointment with faculty rank commensurate with experience. The position reports directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The Associate Provost for Academic Programs leads current and emerging programs and initiatives at North Carolina Central University (
NCCU), as well as providing overall supervision and coordination for curriculum, instruction, academic program review, and management of all academic degree programs. The Associate Provost for Academic Programs oversees the operations and activities of the J.D. Clement Early College High School, and the James E. Shepard Memorial Library. |
| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Key responsibilities include:
Supervising the planning, organization, implementation, administration, assessment, and revision of the curriculum and instructional and academic support services of Academic Affairs to ensure program rigor and student learning.
Supervising lead staff for the J.D. Clement Early College High School and James E. Shepard Memorial Library.
Coordinating the annual process for administrative review of program learning outcomes for all academic programs, including General Education.
Overseeing course rotation and class semester schedules that ensure efficient use of faculty resources and students' timely progression through the General Education Curriculum and programs of study for degrees, minors, and certificate programs.
Stimulates, coordinates, and administers the review and approval process for the introduction of all new academic courses, degrees, and programs and the revision of existing courses/programs at the local and state level (
UNC System Office).
Coordinates and administers the preparation of the catalog and other programmatic publications.
Serves on administrative committees as assigned by the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
Minimum requirements for the position include an earned doctorate degree and a current full-time appointment as a tenured associate or full professor; a minimum of three to five years administration and supervision; proven effectiveness at academic administration; skill in facilitating teams and accomplishing projects in a collegial environment; excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. |
