Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Medical Director, this position manages WorkStrong program operations. Collaborates with internal and external campus partners. Advises Director on changes and improvements to special service programs. Provides leadership and subject matter expertise across Occupational Health programs, including Travel Medicine, Smoke and Tobacco-Free policy initiatives, and WorkStrong. In this role, the incumbent manages program operations, promotion, stakeholder engagement, policy implementation, and compliance, ensuring continuity of care and effective health and safety support for UC Davis employees. Responsibilities include supervising program staff, overseeing budgets, billing, vendor and partner relationships, and data tracking to ensure fiscal accountability and quality improvement. The position advises leadership on program enhancements and policy interpretation, leads cross-functional collaboration and committee participation, and develops sustainable, campuswide health initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Nursing, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Progressive experience in health education, public health, occupational health, or program administration
  • Demonstrated experience leading programs, including planning, implementation, evaluation, and quality improvement
  • Supervisory or lead experience, including staff oversight, work prioritization, and performance management
  • Experience with program operations, including budget oversight, resource allocation, and data tracking
  • Knowledge of health education principles, evidence-based practices, and policy compliance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), Health Education, Health Administration, or a related field
  • Experience working in a higher education, academic medical center, or large complex organization
  • Experience supervising professional staff within a unionized or public sector environment
  • Experience overseeing vendor relationships, contracts, and third-party billing processes
  • Experience using data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform strategic planning
  • Demonstrated experience leading campuswide or multi-departmental health initiatives
  • Knowledge of occupational health programs, wellness initiatives, or employee health services
  • Familiarity with UC or comparable institutional policies related to health, safety, and compliance
  • Certification or eligibility for certification as a Certified Health and Wellness Coach. (CHWC)

Department Overview

UC Davis Occupational Health Services is responsible for worker health and safety in a highly diverse teaching, research, and support service environment. The population served exceeds 20,000 covered lives representing 9,000 clinic encounters in the preceding year. Regulatory oversight of OH programs include OSHA (Cal OSHA), CA DIR, CA Department of Public Health and Yolo Co. Health, US Department of Transportation, HIPAA, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Occupational Health supports the research environment and ensures medical compliance with recommendations and standards of NIH, CDC, AAALAC, USDA, and the NRC. A failure to meet the objectives and regulations of these programs can result in bad patient outcomes including injury and death, fines, and loss of accreditation resulting in the loss of ability to continue campus programs.
