Experienced Engineer Consultant-Transportation

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized engineering and planning consulting firm, is seeking a part-time transportation planner/travel demand modeler on highway, transit, freight, multimodal, land use, and airport planning and design projects throughout the nation.

Responsibilities include:

• Proficiency in four-step and activity-based travel demand modeling, including a strong foundational understanding and demonstrated experience in model development (calibration and validation) and model modification in travel forecasting platforms (e.g. CUBE, TRANSCAD, VISUM)
• Ability to conduct project-level analysis to support transportation planning, traffic engineering studies and transit, and post-processing data/preparing inputs for traffic operations analysis
• Experience in traffic operations modeling using tools such as Synchro/Simtraffic, Transmodeler Vissim and HCS data and the ability to use travel demand model data as input in operational analysis
• Experience in pre and post processing transportation data and forecasting results for developing scenario inputs, current conditions summaries, and summary performance measures and their visualizations
• Proficiency in displaying and explaining model outputs and forecasts, including ability to work with a team of data analysts/scientists in producing dashboards (with tools such as Power BI)
• Experience with GIS platforms such as ARCPRO, QGIS)
• Excellent communication, presentation and technical writing skills

Some travel may be required.

The successful candidate will have the following:

• Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Civil Engineering, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or similar from an accredited college or university AND at least eighteen (18) years of relevant experience
• PE required

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

• 15 years of progressive transportation / data modeling/ analysis/ forecasting
• Master's degree in Transportation, Civil Engineering, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or similar is Preferred
• EIT, AICP, PTP or approved certification in a related field preferred
• Knowledge and applications in travel modeling at all levels (sketch, meso, micro, strategic/policy) and its different model forms/methods (4 step trip based, activity based, tour based, multi-resolution, DTA, etc.)
• Knowledge/application of statistical analysis, data management, and visualization methods and programming languages using Python, R Statistical language, Microsoft Excel, PostGreSQL/MySQL, and open source spatial analysis tools (QGIS, etc.) desirable
• Experience in data processing/analysis and programing of transportation data
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
