HJF is seeking a Biostatistician III to provide biostatistical support for biomedical, behavioral and public health research for the Biostatistics Consulting Center. This involves performing statistical analysis on data collected from clinical trials and/or research studies. The Biostatistician III will participate in cross-functional teams or specific projects with defined outcomes and performs data analysis with guidance and appropriate controls, while decisions are made with supervisory guidance.

This position will be in support of the School of Medicine's Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics (SOM-PMB), located in Bethesda, MD.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine.   • Advise university scientists, students, and military researchers during the initial phases of research to determine appropriate experimental design, sample sizes and analytical frameworks.
  • Translate complex multidisciplinary research questions into rigorous, actionable statistical plans.
  • Execute appropriate statistical modeling and evaluations on epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory datasets.
  • Ensure the accurate application of advanced predictive methodologies to derive robust, reproducible conclusions for military and university research.
  • Write and maintain efficient code to merge, clean, and format complex databases from diverse research environments.
  • Synthesize analytical results into publication-ready tables, figures, and abstracts or presentations for diverse scientific stakeholders.
  • Contribute as a co-author by defending the statistical rigor of the research during the peer-review process.
  • Design and lead workshops on statistical literacy for the broader university and military research community.
  • Provide direct mentorship to help non-statisticians confidently interpret their data.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 9-10 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of statistics and study design.
  • Proficiency in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) including programming and use of statistical procedures; other programs necessary for conducting analyses as appropriate (e.g., STATA, MPlus, R, HLM, LISERL).
  • Knowledge of databases and other software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access 2003 and 2007.
  • Experience in data management, statistical analysis of longitudinal or repeated measurement data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills to assist senior scientists in management of the data analytic team.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $93,100 - $147,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
