Step into a role where precision engineering meets real-world impact. We are seeking a Distributed & Fluid Systems Engineer to design and deliver critical mechanical and fluid subsystems for advanced military vehicle platforms. This is a hands-on, high-visibility opportunity to work on Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems (AFES) and other essential vehicle systems-supporting everything from prototype builds to full production.

Hours and Pay



  • Schedule: 9/80 Work Week (Enjoy every other Friday off)
  • Location: On-Site - Sterling Heights, MI
  • Pay Rate: Up to $51.00/hour (based on experience)
  • Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

What You'll Do



  • Design, develop, and release distributed and fluid systems including fuel systems, fire suppression (AFES), hydraulics, pneumatics, cooling distribution, and auxiliary systems
  • Integrate components into vehicle platforms to meet performance, safety, environmental, and durability requirements
  • Apply mechanical engineering principles including material selection, fabrication, welding, and structural design
  • Perform analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and design validations to support engineering changes and improvements
  • Support prototype builds, production efforts, and sustainment activities including troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation such as DFMEA, DVP&R, SSDD, and system specifications
  • Lead or support integration reviews, fit checks, and technical presentations to stakeholders and leadership
  • Oversee CAD models and drawing development, ensuring accuracy and manufacturability
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for system performance issues
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering teams to meet program requirements and timelines



What You Bring



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (Electrical Engineering considered with relevant mechanical experience)
  • 5-7 years of experience in fluid systems, distributed systems, or related mechanical engineering roles
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and system integration
  • Experience supporting prototype and/or production build environments
  • Proven ability to develop fluid system architecture, schematics, and troubleshoot performance issues
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as NX or Creo (Teamcenter and Vis Mockup experience a plus)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems (AFES)
  • Background supporting ground combat or military vehicle programs
  • Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, propulsion systems, or thermal management
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance


Additional Requirements



  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and meet ITAR requirements
  • Comfortable working on and around military vehicles, including climbing and maneuvering as needed
  • Flexibility to support occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime based on program needs
