Title: Program Assistant - National HIV Behavioral Surveillance $23.77 - $30.98 / Posted Thru: 4/29/2025 Funding End Date: 12-31-2026 Location: Hybrid - In-Person Work Required at Locations in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties Non-Traditional Schedule Including Late Nights and Some Weekends Purpose: The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Bureau of HIV and STI Programs (BHSP) conducts routine surveillance for the prevention and detection of HIV in the state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is funding MDHHS to conduct the NHBS Project (National HIV Behavioral Surveillance), a comprehensive system for bio-behavioral surveillance conducted since 2003 in populations disproportionately affected by HIV. NHBS collects data on behavioral risk factors for HIV (e.g., sexual behaviors, drug use), HIV testing behaviors, receipt of prevention services, and use of prevention strategies (e.g., condoms, PrEP). All NHBS participants are offered an anonymous HIV test. The NHBS Program Assistant's primary duties are to attend NHBS data collection events and serve as lead interviewer of recruited participants. This position will also be expected to assist the NHBS team in transporting project supplies to event locations, data entry, attending all required staff meetings, and assisting in other duties as needed. This position is supported by a federal grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is renewed yearly as funds are available and projects are continued. Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications/Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience: Experience working with a diverse population, basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office Suite.) and familiarity in HIV/AIDS, research, and/or survey administration. Important Skills and Characteristics:
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: This position will be both in-person at sites across Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne Counties as well as remote for certain meetings. Travel will be required to scheduled event sites. Occasional travel to the office located at Cadillac Place/Detroit may be required. Working hours will be a combination of daytime, evenings, late night and weekends. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility. IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: This position has a direct impact on the quality of services provided by MPHI to MDHHS.
