Position Overview


Primary Purpose of the Position

  • The Department of Communication and Media Studies is seeking a pool of candidates for temporary adjunct positions for the 2026-2027 academic year
  • Applications are encourages by candidates with experience teaching communication &media-related courses to culturally and linguistically diverse students
  • The adjunct faculty will teach courses that equip students with the skills to effectively develop multimedia projects


Candidates should be able to successfully teach one or more of the following courses, face-to-face and online, (if applicable) during the day or evening hours:




  • CMS 1301 Introduction to Human Communication Theory

  • CMS 2325 Intro to Mass Communication

  • CMS 2341 Fundamentals of Speech

  • CMS 2361 Digital Convergence

  • CMS 3301 Law and Ethics of Mass Communication

  • CMS 3311 Studio Production

  • CMS 3305 Mass Media Management

  • CMS 3320 Intercultural Communication

  • CMS 3325 Digital Media Writing

  • CMS 3371 Field Production

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Communication and Media Studies at Winston-Salem State University focuses on the emerging digital forms of media in the 21st Century, with emphasis on human and social communication. Students will have the opportunity to increase and enhance global-intercultural awareness.

Requirements and Preferences

Minimum Experience/Education

  • Master's Degree in communication and media studies (or a related field) from a regionally accredited college/university
  • Two years or more of successful teaching experience in Communication and Media Studies at the undergraduate college level in a multicultural environment

M-F, various class times

  • Demonstrated success in multimedia
  • Ability to use various technologies & digital media applications to teach courses and engage students
  • Ability to teach effectively using best practices and a variety of instructional methods

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Three years or more of teaching experience in Communication and Media Studies in a college/university environment
  • Teaching experience in a culturally diverse environment
  • Working knowledge of Canvas or similar learning management system
  • Evidence of utilizing Adobe Suite applications to engage students in the learning process
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, innovation, and collaboration in working with university colleagues and professionals in the discipline

Describe the specific job duties related to this competency

  • Facilitate high quality, engaging instruction by teaching undergraduate communication and media studies courses for credit during day or evening hours
  • Communicate effectively with students and monitor their academic progress through EAB and other student success management systems
  • Foster student success and assist students in reaching their fullest academic, personal and professional potential
  • Responsible for classroom management and other duties as assigned by the department chair
  • Responsible for teaching, grading, and mentoring students
  • Timely submission of midterm and final grades required
