Title: Disease Intervention Specialist - Hepatitis C $57,761.60 - $84,260.80 / Posted Thru: 5-1-26 Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live and Work in Michigan Purpose: The Disease Intervention Specialist's (DIS) role consists of performing public health disease surveillance, case investigation, and linkage to care work concerning the detection and control of hepatitis C virus (HCV) and other communicable diseases. Specifically, the DIS will be responsible for interviewing patients to complete case investigation, provide health education, and link individuals to treatment and supportive services. In addition, this position is responsible for providing navigation services for HCV and other communicable diseases by working with clinical providers, local health jurisdictions, syringe service programs, and private and community-based agencies that serve high-need populations (e.g., persons who inject drugs, perinatal, and justice-involved populations). Should other emerging threats arise, the DIS will be responsible for shifting responsibilities to respond and investigate (e.g., Tuberculosis). Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications/Requirements: Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in any field is required; a degree in a health-related field is preferred. Experience: Two years of professional experience are required, including one year equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service. At least one year of experience in a healthcare or health education role within a local, state, or federal health department, community-based organization, or health system is preferred but not required. Experience working with individuals living with hepatitis C is highly desired. Important Skills and Characteristics:
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: The position will be remote. Must have reliable home internet connection. A valid vehicle operator's license to attend off-site meetings, conferences, and training. Viewing a CRT or VDT screen over 75% of the time. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility. IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: As part of the Division of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the DIS's primary goal is to help people live longer healthier, and more productive lives by preventing disease transmission by ensuring all people who are affected or have been exposed are promptly tested, linked to care, and treated.
