Workweek

Up to 29 Hours | Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as needed. This program runs from May 26 through July 8, 2026.
This program also has multiple locations while the program runs, locations include: McHenry County College, Crystal Lake; Holiday Home Camp, Williams Bay, WI; MCC Catalyst Campus, Woodstock, IL


Position Summary

The Summer Program Class Assistant will actively work with staff in the implementation, supervision, and support of youth in all phases of programming activities, and during class/tutoring sessions. They will mentor and advise student participants in their pursuit of post-secondary education, as well as plan and supervise evening recreational activities during residential components. They will chaperone one scheduled field trip each week and are always responsible for supervising and maintaining order among the Summer Program participants.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide general assistance and support to Rising Scholars staff and summer instructors during a 6-week summer program
  • Monitor and oversee high school-age students to ensure appropriate and professional behavior
  • Assist staff with the collection of accurate and detailed records of services provided to participants
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of participant information in accordance with FERPA
  • Assist and support Rising Scholars staff in the office, at the summer sites, etc. with the planning, preparation, and implementation of services and activities such as participant workshops and group coaching sessions, classroom instruction, general communication (telephone and email contact), and field trips, etc.
  • Assist with chaperoning participants on college tours, educational and cultural activities, and field trips
  • Create, and/or modify documents including program flyers, reports, emails, etc.
  • Attend to and initiate calls to students and parents as needed
  • Send mailings, text messages, and voice recordings to participants and parents as needed
  • Manage Rising Scholars social media accounts, if needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or directed by immediate supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be a high school graduate and registered for college with a strong academic record and a valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications:
  • TRIO alumni or experience working with TRIO students
  • Experience working with teenagers in a camp setting or a residence hall
  • Relevant academic background that reflects a commitment to academic excellence

  • Be a quick starter and learner, and be able to take initiative
  • Have the ability to travel to various summer sites to provide onsite support to assist the Rising Scholars staff
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills, as well as effective organizational and time management skills
  • Adaptive to different academic levels and needs
  • Open and encouraging, yet appropriately assertive
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Takes directions well, but also offers ideas
  • Works well with other staff members
  • Positive outlook and professional demeanor
  • Available day and/or evening hours
