Washington College in Chestertown, MD, is seeking a GIS intern to assist with ongoing mapping, spatial analysis, and dashboard development requests from local and state nonprofit organizations, specifically the Maryland Highway Safety Office.

Essential Functions:



  • Assist with the preparation, cleaning, and quality control of traffic safety datasets (e.g., crash, citation, roadway, and related spatial data) for analysis and mapping.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro to perform spatial analysis, geocoding, joins, and basic statistical summaries related to traffic safety trends and patterns.
  • Create professional cartographic maps (hot spot maps, density maps, thematic maps) to
  • Contribute to documentation and metadata, helping ensure datasets, maps, and applications are well-described and reproducible.
  • Support dashboard and reporting efforts that translate raw traffic safety data into actionable insights for state and local partners.
  • Additional tasks as assigned


Qualifications:



  • Self-motivated, independent, and adaptable.
  • Passionate about conservation, land stewardship, community, and state-based projects.
  • Pursuing or holding a degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Online and related geospatial tools required.
  • Some experience with Python is a plus but not required. We're happy to teach the right candidate if assigned to a project with programming components.



Salary: $17 an hour/Working 25 hours a week
