Spectral Instruments Imaging is part of the Bruker BioSpin Division- Pre-Clinical Imaging Group and manufactures highly sensitive and robust, in vivo imaging systems for bioluminescence, fluorescence and x-ray. Our instruments allow preclinical researchers to monitor the progression of disease in small animals. This is crucial to new discoveries in oncology, translational medicine and immunotherapy. Our development team has consistently produced industry leading optical technology for over 30 years and our supporting biologists ensure we not only build the best hardware, but remain focused on valuable scientific applications.
Responsibilities
Please note this is an onsite opportunity of out of our Tucson, AZ offices. Remote or hybrid working arrangements are not available for this opportunity. New opportunity for an Imaging Instrumentation Manager to lead, guide, and manage the Preclinical Optical Molecular Imaging Team based in Tucson, Arizona.
Manage an interdisciplinary team of scientific engineers and technicians focusing on the development, design, and delivery of preclinical optical molecular imaging systems.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, coach, engage, and retain a highly qualified team, including performance, timekeeping, expense management, career training path, and talent development.
- Develop, test, qualify, and refine prototypes of present and future designs with the goal of transition to production, including but not limited to mechanical, electronic, optical and software components.
- Define guidelines, specifications, processes and procedures for service and production.
- Provide production support including incoming inspection process and procedures, troubleshoot production assemblies and instruments.
- Diagnose hardware, software, electronic and optical issues with instruments.
- Identify and evaluate alternative components for production.
- Provide daily involvement and management of the software team to align projects and timelines with company goals.
- Actively support outside sales organization with service assistance, instrument installation, and training.
- Ensure adherence to Company policies and guidelines and efficient utilization of company resources.
Qualifications
- BS Degree in Physics, engineering or related discipline. Advanced education preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years recent hands-on work experience focusing on electromechanical systems, imaging systems, instrument control, data acquisition within a life sciences technology work environment plus minimum of two recent years team management responsibility.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills with demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple work priorities and deliverables, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to constructively motivate, train, manage and develop staff to build and maintain a supportive teamwork culture.
- Proven ability to consistently deliver timely and positive professional communication with all parties, exercise discretion and sound judgment.
- Advanced knowledge of image processing software, imagery interpretation and analysis.
- Comfortable applying mathematical modeling and fundamental physics principles to solve real-world engineering problems, including working with spatial or 3D data; able to translate theoretical concepts into practical implementations.
- Experience with scientific computing and software development, including working knowledge of C++ and Qt, and proficiency in Python for prototyping, testing, and data analysis (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, OpenCV), including workflows involving multidimensional datasets, preferred.
- Familiarity with exploratory data analysis (EDA), including working with real-world datasets to extract insights, validate assumptions, and support decision-making.
- Exposure to parallel computing or GPU acceleration (e.g., CUDA) is a plus
- Hands-on experience with the development and maintenance of imaging systems through to production, including research and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, computer, technical, proposal communication and presentation skills, including English fluency and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Operates with a high standard of ethics, integrity, and professionalism
- Ability to satisfactorily complete position compliance and training requirements
- Attend and actively participate in quarterly scientific technical training programs
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. overhead, transport equipment and tools in excess of 300 lbs.
- This position may require lifting heavy objects and maneuvering large bulky items (examples: tools, mechanical equipment, power supplies).
- This position may require reasonable dexterity to perform manual functions in confined spaces.
- Proven ability to follow safety standards, practices, and codes
- Reliable transportation and valid Driver License in good standing, issued by resident state required.
- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.
- Maintain a valid passport with flexibility for travel.
- May be required to pass security clearance investigation.

At Bruker, the base salary is part of our total compensation. TThe compensation range for this position is between $118K to $150K. The base salary for the role will depend on several job-related factors, including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge, and travel requirements for this position.
