The Senior Electrical Project Manager leads the planning, design coordination, and execution of complex electrical engineering projects within a multi-disciplinary MEP environment. This role is responsible for managing projects from concept through construction, ensuring technical excellence, schedule adherence, budget control, and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of electrical systems, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.

This position plays a key role in mentoring junior staff, supporting business development efforts, and maintaining quality standards across a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, industrial, and/or mission-critical projects.



Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

    Lead electrical engineering projects from concept through construction administration and closeout
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives
  • Develop project plans, schedules, staffing strategies, and fee tracking
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical scope with clients and internal teams

Technical Oversight

  • Provide senior level technical oversight and quality control for electrical system designs, including:
    • Power distribution
    • Lighting and controls
    • Fire alarm systems
    • Emergency and standby power
    • Grounding and bonding
    • Low voltage and special systems (as applicable)
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and authorityhavingjurisdiction (AHJ) requirements
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Resolve complex technical challenges and support constructability reviews

Team Coordination & Mentorship

  • Coordinate electrical design efforts with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, and architectural disciplines
  • Lead and mentor electrical engineers and designers; provide guidance, feedback, and professional development support
  • Assign tasks, monitor workloads, and review deliverables to maintain quality and efficiency
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across project teams

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and reliable delivery
  • Lead client meetings, technical presentations, and coordination workshops
  • Manage expectations and address scope changes, risks, and concerns early and effectively
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal input, fee development, and client interviews

Construction Phase Support

  • Oversee construction administration activities, including:
    • Submittal and shop drawing reviews
    • RFIs and field clarifications
    • Site visits and inspections
    • Coordination with contractors and owners
  • Assist with commissioning, testing, and project closeout documentation

Financial & Risk Management

  • Monitor project budgets, labor utilization, and profitability
  • Identify and manage project risks related to scope, schedule, technical complexity, and coordination
  • Support change management and assist with contract compliance


Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred or required (depending on role responsibilities and state requirements)
  • Ability to serve as Engineer of Record on projects when licensed

Experience

  • 8-12+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering within an MEP consulting environment
  • 5+ years of experience managing electrical engineering projects of varying size and complexity
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience delivering projects in commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, missioncritical, or similar sectors

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems design, including:
    • Power distribution and service sizing
    • Lighting and lighting controls
    • Emergency and standby power systems
    • Fire alarm systems
    • Grounding and bonding
    • Lowvoltage/specialty systems (security, data, communications, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IECC, local AHJ requirements)
  • Proven ability to solve complex technical and coordination challenges

Project & Financial Management

  • Proven track record of managing scope, schedule, and budget for engineering projects
  • Experience with fee development, project planning, staffing, and labor tracking
  • Ability to identify project risks, manage change, and maintain project profitability

Leadership & Communication

  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing engineers and designers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interface with clients, architects, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Comfortable leading meetings, presentations, and technical discussions

Software & Technical Tools

  • Proficiency with industrystandard design and project tools, such as:
    • Revit, AutoCAD
    • Electrical analysis software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar)
    • Microsoft Office and project management platforms
  • Experience with BIM coordination processes preferred
