Overview

The Sr. Developer will serve as a subject matter expert overseeing the design, development, testing, and deployment of Core Payments products and features working in collaboration with architecture, platform, product, operations, and business teams to accelerate the delivery of innovative money movement solutions and capabilities aligned with member-centric business initiatives and corporate strategies. This role ensures adherence to SDLC, operational, architectural, and security standards, and provides technical guidance to both leadership and junior team members. The Sr. Developer specializes in delivering cloud-based services and applications, requires extensive knowledge of integration technologies, and works independently on complex projects. Familiarity with Navy Federal's core banking platform, payment products, cloud, and platform strategy is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy advanced high-quality software solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Write advanced clean, maintainable, and efficient code following coding standards, best practices, and security guidelines.
  • Analyze complex technical challenges, trouble-shoot issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with Technical Product Owner / Manager, Project Manager, and Scrum Master to lead the planning and delivery of products and features
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and developers to analyze, define, and document the technical design for logical processes, workflows, system integrations, data, system environment, internal / external controls
  • Perform analysis of technical challenges and advise team on mitigation and corrective action
  • Maintain the product backlog including business and technical requirements in collaboration with developers, architects, Scrum Master, and business product owner
  • Drive definition of technical enablers and non-functional requirements
  • Perform peer design and code reviews; provide guidance on standards and best practices
  • Develop implementation plans, coordinate with dependent teams, and drive the release and change management processes
  • Manage the Continuous Integration & Delivery pipeline and toolchain
  • Troubleshoot build / deployment, system, and application issues
  • Oversee resolution of system and application defects
  • Maintain and monitor systems, applications, services post-implementation
  • Develop and maintain product documentation
  • Develop in-depth domain knowledge of products, platforms, and technologies
  • Conduct research and analysis on new and emerging technologies and share with the team
  • Provide guidance and mentorship for less experienced team members
  • Build and maintain relationships with leadership, team members, and key internal / external stakeholders including vendors

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related degree, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
  • 10-12 years of experience in software development
  • Significant experience in one or more of the following disciplines: systems engineering, software engineering, technology management.
  • Enabled event streaming for critical use cases such as payments, notifications, audit events, and system integrations
  • Designed and led eventdriven architectures to enable loosely coupled, scalable, and resilient systems across payment and core financial platforms.

  • Significant experience with:
    • object-oriented programming languages with specific emphasis on Java / J2EE
    • developing web services, microservices, APIs using REST and SOAP architecture patterns
    • developing and deploying applications to private, public, and hybrid cloud infrastructure (e.g., Azure)
    • Enterprise cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos, Azure Data Lake)
    • Continuous Integration & Delivery practices and tools
    • software development practices including defining, developing, testing, and implementing system requirements; designing, coding, debugging applications deployed to on-prem and cloud platform environments
    • engineering principles, practices, theories, and methods to identify and solve complex problems and perform sophisticated analyses
    • end-to-end IT process, including architecture, design & engineering, implementation, and operations
    • Agile software development practices
    • Product management lifecycle
    • Developing scripts or applications to automate system/application deployment, configuration, or management
  • Advanced skills:
    • Troubleshooting and resolving technical problems, systems analysis, workflow, and procedural analysis, applying innovative approaches to solve technical design issues, influencing and guiding strategic thinking, resolving conflicting requests and meeting changing requirements
    • Designing and deploying new, upgraded and/or existing systems, analyzing and organizing problems or work processes for technical solutions, problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, team building, and presentation skills
    • Database, presentation software skills and research
  • Expert organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Experience working with all levels of staff (leading, guiding and mentoring others), management, stakeholders and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex system/integration problems through innovative solutions

  • Advanced knowledge of financial/banking industry standards, open banking standards, regulations, and practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies, and procedures
  • Implementing and/or supporting payment processing systems (e.g., Core payments, Wires, Western Union, Cashier Check & Securities)
