Overview

The Welder Field Service Technician is responsible for performing advanced welding, fabrication, and mechanical assembly to repair, modify, and construct industrial components and machinery using MIG/TIG techniques and precision tools in the field and at shop sites. This role must interpret blueprints, maintain equipment, and ensure all work meets strict quality standards while adapting to diverse projects.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission, and values of BMC.
  • Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures to include company vehicle policies and inspections.
  • Use welding equipment and machine tools as well as multiple other types of tooling to meet specific job needs.
  • Maintain and operate a variety of equipment, including services such as pipe beveling and cutting, flange facing, among other applications.
  • Knowledgeable in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication using techniques such as MIG and TIG welding, according to engineering drawings, written procedures, and verbal instructions.
  • Read and follow blueprints, layouts, and engineering drawings to understand project specifications.
  • Repair or modify broken or cracked parts, new and existing products, and machinery.
  • Assemble components with the help of power and hand tools.
  • Inspect completed work to determine structural soundness and fit to mechanical part.
  • Ensure proper dimensions, compliance and tolerance levels of finished product is defect free.
  • Clean and maintain portable machines and welding equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma required or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of welding/fabricating experience required, preferably in a heavy equipment application/environment
  • Valid CDL license or medical card depending on size of service truck and a safe driving record required.
  • General understanding of mechanical assemblies.
  • Able to operate N.D.T (Magnetic particle and die penetrant) is preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics preferred.
  • Be proficient in welding and cutting of all types
  • Must own basic tools for disassembly/assembly of machines/components
  • Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes and earthmoving equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read prints, view dimensions, and samples to repair and/or assemble metal parts.
  • Organizational and time management skills required. Must have the ability to set and keep priorities and professionally manage the stress associated with dealing with a fast-paced industry and deadlines.
  • Must be enthusiastic and hard-working with the ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy.

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily inside (non-climate controlled) throughout the day.
  • Requires the use of protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials.
  • Position may require employees to be physically present at designated worksite locations.
  • Physical use of a broad variety of tools and machines to maintain, troubleshoot and repair and/or paint equipment.
  • Must be able to lift varied weight.
  • Requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting.
  • Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
  • Use of computers and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
