Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Facilities & Equipment Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining processes and programs for the repair, maintenance and preventative maintenance for roasting, processing, and packaging equipment to ensure ongoing operations within our HQ Roastery and Cold Brew facility, with minimal disruption or downtime. This role will oversee all aspects of mechanical operations within these facilities, ranging from vendor networks to efficiency metrics and PM schedules. Additionally, in partnership with the Operations and Roasting teams, they will influence and shape Stumptown's overall equipment strategy and supporting processes, as related to investment, planning and installation of increased automation and efficiency in all of our manufacturing facilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage the maintenance team through clear organizational communication, while effectively prioritizing and executing multiple projects with strong attention to detail and disciplined organizational skills.

  • Provide leadership and expertise to the operations team by developing programs and processes around equipment maintenance and best practices on preventative maintenance, productivity metrics (downtime, capacity, OE rates), and vendor management.

  • Provide repairs to roastery facilities and equipment including electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems.

  • Develop appropriate systems and procedures to support preventive maintenance on all equipment; execute activities according to the maintenance schedule.

  • Repair and maintain roasting, high-speed packaging, and material handling equipment.

  • Assist equipment operators to improve line efficiency.

  • Respond promptly to all service requests with a high level of internal customer service.

  • Maintain communication and relationships with multiple third-party service providers.

  • Act as in-house expert on mechanical requirements and layouts for current and new facilities.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with our Good Manufacturing Practices Policy.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages a maintenance team of 3-6 Equipment Mechanics.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience maintaining, repairing, overhauling and troubleshooting processing, packaging and material handling equipment in a manufacturing environment.

  • Degree or certifications in engineering-related science, logic control or robotics preferred, or equivalent related work experience required.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Ability to accurately assess mechanical problems, make recommendations, communicate effectively and resolve issues quickly while working under pressure.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, make recommendations, draw conclusions and communicate effectively.

  • Experience in industry best practice and ability to apply insights to develop and execute programs and processes.

  • Basic computer and technical writing skills.

  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

  • Must have a demonstrated history of safe work habits.

  • Schedule flexibility.

Physical Demands

  • Carry weight, lift - frequently moves materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Weight greater than 50 pounds can be mitigated with a lifting partner or device.

  • Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

  • Repetitive motion using the hands, wrists and forearms.

  • Standing in place for several hours at a table to operate or repair machinery.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a warehouse environment.

  • The work environment can be noisy.

  • Temperatures can be variable in the work area.

  • This position is required to be onsite 100% of the time.

  • Scheduling flexibility is required with occasional evenings, early mornings and weekends required.
