The Hospice Physician/Medical Director designee, is a Hospice employee, who is a Doctor of Medicine and who primarily assumes medical responsibility for the Hospice patients in the Hospice Program. The Designee oversees the Hospice Physicians in the absence of the Medical Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides medical services, including, but not limited to, assessment, treatments, recertifications and health teaching in the form of patient home visits.
  • Deals with crisis situation (regarding health concerns, family issues, safety factors, etc.) and follows through.
  • Assures that treatments are medically appropriate and cost-effective.
  • Works collaboratively with Hospice Medical Director and team to utilize cost effective symptom management.
  • Confirms the patient's medical eligibility for the Hospice benefit in accordance with Medicare/Medicaid and insurance guidelines and State/Federal regulations; certified and re-certifies patient eligibility (terminal illness) for the Hospice Program.
  • Consults with the patient's attending physicians, as needed, regarding palliation and management of terminal illnesses; in addition, meets the general medical needs of the patients to the extent that these needs are not met by the attending physician.
  • Maintains a current and working knowledge of and ensures compliance with State and Federal Hospice regulations related to standards of practice.
  • Ensures medications are used and disposed of within acceptable standards of practice.
  • Works cooperatively with patients and all care providers and family members and is active in providing medical direction for Hospice patients in meetings and individually

  • Licensed in State of Wisconsin as a MD (Doctor of Medicine).
  • Board certified in individual medical specialty.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medicine, pharmacology, and pain/symptom control of the dying patient.
  • Knowledge and understanding of death, dying, grieving and bereavement.
  • Current/Valid WI Drivers License; plus reliable/insured vehicle
Part-time - 20 hours/week.
Hourly, Non-Exempt.
