Clinical Director, Breast Imaging

The MGB Clinical Director of Breast Imaging, under the general supervision of the Sr. Director, AMC Radiology Operations, will be directly responsible for the clinical and technical operations, quality, safety, and compliance for the BWH/BWPO/BWFH/MGH/MGPO departments of Breast Imaging, and partner with the Breast Imaging Service & Division Chief(s). The Breast Imaging Director will also serve as the MGB Enterprise subject matter expert (SME), in partnership with Breast Imaging M.D. leadership and local site leaders to ensure harmonized workflows, regulatory compliance, supplies, equipment, etc.
Participates in Collaborative Case Reviews (CCRs) as requested
- Participates on applicable departmental, hospital and modality committees, (i.e. Contrast administration,
Radiation safety, MR Safety, Patient experience, Hospital huddle, and others as assigned)
Ensures department/staff knowledge of emergency procedures on behalf of Sr. Director when needed
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

JOB SUMMARY & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees the approval of staff time off, ensuring adequate staffing at all times and consistent and fair practices of granting approval
  • Provides back up payroll coverage as needed
  • Enters performance evaluation of all technical and non-technical employees; recommends salary adjustment, recognition and where appropriate disciplinary action
  • Responsible for professional development of staff and leaders within areas of oversight

Human Resources Management

  • Participates in new hire interviews for all leadership positions within areas of oversite
  • Supervises and mentor's Operations and/or Technical Managers within area(s) of oversight
  • Oversees and provides guidance to Operations & Technical Managers on all corrective action; upon consulting with the Senior Director of Operations (as needed)
  • Assigns work, evaluates performance and ensures on-going competency based and required training
  • Oversees the implementation of work schedules to ensure consistent and fair practices within areas of oversight, including but not limited to:
  • Daily work assignments to ensure full & adequate coverage for areas of operations (including 24/7 operations where applicable); Back-up / Emergency coverage schedules; Holiday coverage schedules; On-Call schedules

Business Development

  • In conjunction with modality & sub-specialty division MD partner(s), responsible for the overall growth & expansion of modality service lines (i.e. hours of operations, new exam offerings, new areas of opportunity, research, etc.)
  • Interfaces with hospital department leaders to ensure service needs/expectations are being met and maintain good working relationships and open lines of communication
  • Ensures that all information regarding procedural or operational changes are communicated to appropriate Department and Hospital personnel.

Operations Management

  • Develops, monitors and maintains operational workflows to promote efficient and safe patient throughput
  • Develops, monitors and maintains resource scheduling templates to ensure adequate patient access
  • Coordinates with other area clinical directors to promote cross-modality collaboration for resource utilization/sharing, efficient patient hand-off, etc.
  • Perform daily rounds to proactively manage potential operational issues or address ongoing issues
  • Oversees supply management to ensure proper supply inventory and availability
  • Always evaluating departmental processes for continuous improvement and providing effective change management
  • Support research activities such as protected research scan time/slots, new device/technology purchase/install/roll-out, translation of new scan techniques from research to clinical, new exam roll-out, etc.
  • Participates in major projects within areas of oversite such as imaging equipment replacement, installation, construction, etc.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for expense and exam volume budget creation and implementation
  • Oversees effective cost containment practices through:
  • Monitoring volume trends/revenue/expense reports
  • Capacity management (physical and human resource)
  • Supply management
  • Institutional cost savings initiatives

Efficient Revenue Cycle practices:

  • Participates in Radiology Charge/Billing Meeting
  • Monitors billing day lags and evaluates/executes appropriate corrective action for improvement
  • Ensures / oversees timely billing corrections
  • Monitors / oversees timely "C" list/TF exam resolution for area(s) of oversight

Quality and Safety

  • Ensures that all Department, Hospital, and Regulatory guidelines are met (i.e. Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, ACR and all others that may apply)
  • Maintains regulatory accreditation on existing equipment and oversees new equipment accreditation process (i.e. ACR, DPH, and all others that may apply)
  • Ensures all departmental policies pertaining to areas of oversite are reviewed and updated on a regular basis
  • Ensures all department and hospital policies and procedures are adhered to by all staff

Technical Management

  • Participates in development of capital budget and renovation plans on an on-going basis
  • Participates in development of capital equipment upgrade 1-5 year plan
  • Ensures proper functioning of all equipment
  • Ensures all preventative maintenance, physicist testing, software upgrades and all other equipment related services are performed in a timely manner and per regulatory and manufacturer guidelines
  • Perform daily rounds to proactively manage potential technical issues or update on ongoing issues
  • Participates and supports I.T. project planning/training/education/implementation projects to ensure readiness within areas of oversight
  • Analytics and Reporting

Including but not limited to:

  • Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly exam volume
  • Daily/Weekly FTE usage and variance
  • Monthly budget variance (Revenue and Expenses)
  • Physician referrals
  • Participates in Radiology Administrator on-call (AOC) rotation
  • Assumes responsibilities of Operations &/or Technical Managers, if needed
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Health Science required or Master's Degree Business Administration and Management preferred

Licenses and Credentials

  • Radiologic Technologist [Massachusetts State License] required
  • Mammography [Massachusetts State License]
  • Radiologic Technologist [ARRT-R]
  • Radiologic Technologist [ARRT-M]

Experience

  • Management of Radiology/Imaging/Ultrasound department 5-7 years required
  • Progressive radiologic technologist experience with multiple patient populations 8-10 years required
