SUMMARY:

The Transportation and Logistics Supervisor is a key leadership role within a dynamic, fast-paced paper mill environment, responsible for overseeing the Finished Goods Warehouse operations, including yard management, outbound product dispatch, safety compliance, employee supervision, and internal and external coordination. This role drives continuous improvement efforts and inventory management controls to ensure monthly shipment and inventory goals are met or exceeded.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. People Leadership & Development

    • Lead, engage, and develop warehouse staff to foster a high-performing culture focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Manage staffing, crew assignments, and scheduling to meet operational demands.
    • Oversee employee training and performance management, including assignment of work, performance evaluations, and ensuring accountability for results.
    • Provide recommendations on employment decisions such as employee discipline, promotion, termination, and other employment actions.


  2. Transportation & Order Fulfillment Management

    • Execute shipping operations by managing dispatch with dedicated fleet partners.

      • Oversee yard operations to ensure efficient trailer flow, staging, and loading activities.


    • Procure outbound freight in a timely and cost-effective manner and distribute load tenders to carriers based on the production schedule, adjusting as needed.
    • Monitor carrier performance, including on-time delivery metrics, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
    • As needed, coordinate with Sales to fulfill customer orders and communicate production schedule changes.


  3. Warehouse Operations & Inventory Control

    • Lead transportation and logistics performance analytics using Elixir, SMS, and other systems to maintain dashboards and support operational decision-making; provide regular updates to leadership.
    • Perform regular audits of inventory levels and shipping supplies, remedy discrepancies.


  4. Safety

    • Lead and enforce all safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
    • Ensure timely and accurate incident reporting and follow-up for warehouse-related events.
    • Set and enforce housekeeping standards within the department.


  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Operational Excellence

    • Partner with Production, Sales, and other departments to support mill operational and reliability excellence goals.
    • Drive initiatives that enhance service, efficiency, and cost performance.


  6. Perform other duties and special projects as business dictates.
  7. Responsible for the maintenance, creation, and control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies that you have access or knowledge of, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPAA.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Transportation and Logistics Supervisor supervises five Roll Handlers and one Senior Roll Handler.



SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or equivalent field of study.
  2. 5 or more years of experience in a logistics role or supply chain management role.
  3. 3 or more years of experience in a Supervisory role.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to influence others.
  5. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to improve processes and solve complex operational problems.
  6. Proficiency in logistics systems and databases, with advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI).
  7. Able to multitask in an environment with constantly changing priorities.
  8. Team player, detail-oriented, and organized.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

1. Work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.

2. Wear PPE (Personal protection equipment) including safety glasses, earplugs, hard hat, steel-toed shoes/boots, and any other PPE that may be required.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

APICS Supply Chain Certification is preferred.
