Job Summary

The Director of Nutrition Services plans, organizes and directs activities of the Clinical Nutrition Department. This position is responsible for developing and coordinating inpatient and outpatient nutritional care. The Director also provides technical assistance in procurement of food and supplies for the health system, serves as liaison with medical staff and other departments in matters relating to nutrition, and coordinates CQI activities.

Responsibilities:

Directs operations and the delivery of Clinical Nutrition Care for Inpatient and Ambulatory patients. Develops and maintains the Nutrition based CQI activities for the department. Directs and supports medical nutrition aspects of Food As Medicine (FAM) including strategy and partnerships in collaboration with Population Health. Directs and supports the WIC medical nutrition team. Provides oversight to distribution of formula lab activities, special formulas, tube feedings, etc. Maintains current knowledge in nutrition and diet therapy trends. Works with interdisciplinary leaders to ensure optimal care and delivery of medical nutrition. Interviews applicants and select appropriate candidates for employment in the department. Determines staffing needs and assign and schedule staff coverage for patient areas. Manages budget and other resources allocated to the department.

Acts as a liaison between Schools of Nutrition and the department/health system. Provides leadership in the following areas:

  • Providing patients with optimal nutritional support to meet individual needs.
  • Participating in research activities in dietetics and other related fields.
  • Performing audits in nutrition services to maximize nutrition support of patients.
  • Oversight for reference and education materials and planning educational conferences for staff and community.
  • Coordinating and participating in the preparation of standards of care.
  • Ensuring the online diet manual is available for the health system per Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Acting as a liaison between department and medical staff, food service.
  • Orienting new RD's in patient areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential
  • Eight (8) or more years of leadership experience at the management level or higher
  • Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Georgia
