| Essential Job Duties |
The
Birkenheuer and Grobman Research Programs are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and proactive Research Technician to join our teams. In this role you will be involved in cutting edge programs investigating vector-borne diseases as well as disease of the respiratory and alimentary tracts (i.e., Aerodigestive disease). In this position you will be involved in advanced molecular techniques including
PCR/qPCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (
ELISA), working with
DNA/
RNA, and cell culture. You will also be involved in managing clinical samples, biobanking, arthropod rearing and advanced clinical techniques including esophageal pressure profiling (e.g., high resolution manometry). You may be involved in animal handling and sampling. Employees should understand the rationale for the research and perform related research and clinical skills to allow research hypotheses to be tested in a scientifically rigorous manner.
Primary Duties:
- Diagnostic Operations: Execute, troubleshoot, and validate laboratory assays including ELISAs and PCR in addition to cell culture and other molecular techniques.
- Data and Documentation: Record, analyze, and manage research data insuring integrity and compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Equipment Management: Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation including calibration and quality control standards.
- Lab operations: Manage laboratory inventory, prepare reagents, and maintain a safe and compliant environment.
- Support and Collaboration: Training and assisting junior technicians, undergraduate and graduate students. This may include assistance with IACUCs, clinical trials, manuscript writing and patient care.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in a veterinary clinic; Knowledge of basic animal holding skills.
- Experience with advanced molecular techniques.
- Customer service background; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with a great work ethic.
- Strong analytical skills and computer skills; Accurate record keeping and data management skills.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, be proactive and take responsibility for actions; Work with a diverse team and maintain a positive work environment.
