Job Summary
#CA-DS The Student Services Advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive, year-round operational support across multiple functional areas within the School of Nursing's Student Affairs team. This position possesses broad knowledge about the student lifecycle to perform a range of duties that contribute to the effectiveness of admissions and recruitment, student academic support, student services, and event planning. The role requires strong judgment, independent decision making, attention to detail, and the ability to resolve routine issues and determine appropriate escalation pathways within a high volume, fast-paced environment. This position serves as a key resource for faculty, staff, and students, ensuring consistent, high-quality service aligned with the school's mission and programmatic goals.
The position supports the full student lifecycle, working with varying structures, timelines, and policies of the Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership graduate degree (NSHL) programs. Responsibilities span from traveling for recruitment and outreach, processing applications, supporting student activities, coordinating academic support programs, managing data, and assisting with event coordination. The role requires the ability to interpret and apply university and program policies and manage sensitive student information. This position interacts regularly with internal and external stakeholders and must demonstrate professionalism, a commitment to inclusive excellence, and strong communication skills. - Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience or training.
- Experience working in Student Affairs in health-related degree programs
- Experience with health sciences recruitment and admissions
- Experience with health sciences student and academic support
- Experience handling confidential student records and other sensitive information.
- Experience coordinating complex projects or events in an academic or healthcare setting.
- Experience with public speaking, including presenting to large groups.
- Ability to interpret and apply institutional policies and procedures with accuracy, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively amid frequent interruptions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing agendas, taking minutes, maintaining documentation, and communicating effectively with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations including faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
- Strong customer service skills with a student-centered approach. Ability to maintain positivity and good judgement in difficult situations.
- Proficiency with data systems, spreadsheets, and student information platforms.
- High level of attention to detail, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
- Demonstrated independent decision-making skills, including the ability to navigate ambiguity, identify issues, problem solve, and determine appropriate solutions or resources.
- Ability to function with flexibility, initiative, and composure in a fast-paced, high-stake environment.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, execute, and track multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a registered nurse or physician assistant
- Experience with nursing/physician assistant recruitment and admissions
- Experience with nursing/physician assistant student and academic support
- Experience applying UC Davis and School of Nursing policies and procedures related to graduate admissions.
- Experience working while upholding UC Davis and School of Nursing policies regarding privacy of information (e.g., FERPA).
- Experience with tools such as Microsoft Teams (file sharing), NursingCAS, CASPA, Zoom, Slate, and Power BI.
